PLESE TAKE THE TIME TO READ VERY ANXIOUS

for the past 1& 1/2 days i have a throat infection with fever and a hgh resting pulse. i went to the dr and he presribed mixalin 500 i think its erythromicin. anyhow i do have anxiety / heart phobia issues and i hate drugs i took a pill. 1 hour later i was in bed and started feeling slight short of breath, and i could feel my heart beat stronger and faster , i have a bp monitor so i checked it and started going faster and faster and i had sweaty palms, and an urgency to go to the bathroom(sorry) bp went up to 13/7 my usual is 10/5.5!!!i pulse got up to 140. i took half an inderal 40 mg and h rate started to go down gradually. what do y think happened? could it have been a side effect from the pill? now i am fine though.

should i go to a cardiologist?i am 33 fem, have underactive thyroid and had heart echo last year. i hve mild mvp with mild mitral insuffiency.

a heart rate of 140 indicates anxiety or something else ?

I agree with ihj 100% that you should take all of these symptoms BACK to your doctor. We are not qualified to tell you what could be going on with your heart, your thyroid or your BP. We CAN tell you that it does sound like a pretty classic panic attack, that your symptoms are something we can all relate to, but real peace of mind can only come from your doctor. Possibly a cardio work up IS in order.
You MIGHT have had a reaction to the antibiotic if you are allergic to any form of penicillian. Your doctor should have asked you that before prescribing anything from that family of drugs. (Unless you didn't know)
A heart rate of 140 is not good, as I'm sure you know, and it should be looked at. That your heart rate came down after you took the propranolol would indicate the possibility of high blood pressure, which, since you HAD the propranolol on hand, tells me you may already  know you have this. (?) Anxiety WILL cause your heart rate to skyrocket at times, so you need to find out if it was due to an "anxiety attack" or something organic. I get the feeling that taking your BP causes some anxiety and would therefore recommend that you stop taking it everytime you feel anxious. It will read higher than normal, which will then only increase your anxiety and you can see the vicious cycle you're creating for yourself.
MVP has been linked to people with anxiety disorders and this is something you need to discuss with a cardio.
So, I suggest you see your doctor again, tell him/her everything you've told us, and begin again, so to speak.
It will only get worse if you sit home and worry. We must all be proactive in our health care, so go back and get the answers you need!
Let us know, OK? You'll be fine!
Peace

i thought i wqs going to die for sure. it's so nice to know other people go
through the same as me, i mean i wouldn't wish it on anyone but at least
i take comfort that it was a panic attack.

I have suffered from Anxiety attacks now for years. I have managed to keep them under control without meds. That being said, for your peace of mind, may be a good idea to talk to your doctor and ask if you need to see a specialist. Taking charge of your health is very important plus getting an expert's opinion such as your doctor may give you peace of mind.

Best of Luck!

It sounds like what happens to me when I take a new med. I try not to think about it but the longer it's in my system the more paniced I get. It sounds to me like you had a panic attack. Every time I have a panic attack my heart rate goes up into the 160's to 170's. I get the sweaty palms, Urgency to use the bathroom. All of your symptoms plus more. So in my opinion it was panic you had.
