PTSD

I get horrible panic attacks.  I can't go into a big store, like Walmart without starting without my skin crawling and sweating .  My doctor says its because of all the horrible things in my past.  I have talked about those things a thousand times.  I would think that I wouldn't get the attacks anymore.  Does anyone have this problem?

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) does not 'go away' and is not 'cured', like the rest of the mental disorders we see so much of these days like depression, anxiety, etc.  These disorders must be MANAGED, with counseling, medication, or both.  Ask your doctor about this. - Blu

Hi there.  they have found psychotherapy or talk therapy to be very helpful for PTSD.  In particular, cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT.  This can include exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring, and stress inoculation therapy which is a fancy way of saying teaching someone how to handle stress/anxiety and view memories in a healthy way.  I can't say enough good things about this approach to treating PTSD.  It is often done in conjunction with a medication and I'm glad you are on what you consider to be a good one.

If you haven't done CBT, I highly recommend this to you to give a try to it.  It may help reduce or eliminate the symptoms you are having.  People can greatly improve PTSD  symptoms to the point of any episodes such as you've been having are rare if at all.  Also very important though to treat anything that goes along with it such as panic, depression or anxiety.

Wishing you all the best.  good luck

Wishing you the best of luck dear.

Well that's what we are doing now.  I just thought the panic attacks would get better.  I'm on good meds and they work better than the other ones did.  Oh well
