I have been on Paxil 14 years. It really really did save me. I was in a very bad state and it got me functioning again. I was put on Buspar before the Paxil and I didnt have a reduction in my anxiety after three months so I was taken off of it, But everyone is different. Paxil will not change you forever. It doesnt have to be a permanent thing. You can take it until you can get counselling etc and get everything calmed down in your life and then slowly wean off it. It is possible to come off it. I have been on it so long that my doctors just dont want to mess with my med combos as I am stable.
You need to do something. Good Luck and keep us updated.
they gave me 10 mgs and i am so scared to take them because of all the horror stories...i just feel so bad and depressed and awful and filled with so much anxiety and i dont know what else to do...have you heard of buspar? i was thinking to try that first. I am so scared to put that paxil in my mouth...i feel like it will change me forever...i just dont understand what happeend to me..i am not myslef anymore..i dont know if it it was the withdrawls or all the trauma but i am sinking more and more everyday and i am so scared this will kill me
well...here's the deal. for some, paxil works wonderfully for some...however, it does tend to be one of the harder SSRI's to w/d from should that time ever come. i have heard many horror stories of w/d'ing from paxil. however, most of these have been in the anxiety community where its members are prone to extreme anxiety in the first place. in addition, it's hard to know exactly what percentage of people d/c this drug with no problems at all. i would suspect that only a very small percentage actually do experience bad w/d symptoms.
zoloft works for me. prozac works for some. overall, these tend to be easier to discontinue when the time comes. paxil tends to work well for many people, but it does have more of a tendancy to cause issues during discontuation. that being said, if you're having extreme problems, then you SHOULD probably take something. it can't really hurt, can it? but do keep in mind that no matter what antidepressant you go with, it will take a few weeks for it to actually start working.
Yes,I do believe it will help you a lot!! If this were me...I'd take it right now. You've got nothing to lose...It takes a week or so to begin working so start right away. What dose did they prescribe?
