Namaste,
Paxil is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It works by restoring the balance of serotonin which helps to improve certain mood problems.
Paxil is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
At a low dosage there are usually no side effects and because it treats depression as well as anxiety it is widely used.
I was on Paxil for about 2 months, but unfortunately, I have bipolar disorder which is very difficult to treat. It's only been recently that I have found a medication cocktail that works.
Michael
I've been on paxil twice and both times it has worked well for me. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if needed.
im glad u ask. i have an aunt that was suffering from anxiety an depression for a hole year with out any meds. she start using paxil for six months, now she is off of it now for seven months without any anxiety or depression symptoms. i was thinking of switching from xanax to paxil but my dr said the xanax is working so for so dont change as yet. but everything dosent work the same for everybody but you can try it knowing it works for depression.
Paxil and Lexapro was about the only 2 I could really tolerate and that worked. I had pretty good success on it and was on for 3 years at one point. I liked it-but you have to really give it a good 3 months for your body to adjust to it if your sensitive and to ride out some of the side effects. It made me a little more sweaty and a little increase in anxiety but helped greatly with motivation, ocd, and social anxiety. Kind of a little manic high all the time but all the ssri's do that anyways.
