Prozac: anger, depression and nightmares??

I have been on Prozac for seven weeks now. The first 4 weeks I was on it was wonderful. I felt light, happy and my anxiety was gone. Suddenly now I am feeling extremely aggressive and violent. I am paranoid as well. I was mildly depressed before I started taking the medication, now I am excessively. Not suicidal, but I don't want to go anywhere, do anything, talk to anyone (including my husband and step kids). And the nightmares. Oh my god the nightmares. They are so bad that I am terrified to go to sleep, but I am tired all the time. When I do sleep, its horrible and filled with bad dreams, so I'm not getting rested anymore. I am afraid I am going to get physically violent sometime, that's how I'm feeling.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to get on something else, I was just wondering if this was a common thing.

One of the common side effects of antidepressants, more common in young people but also in adults, are violent and suicidal thoughts.  Sometimes a particular antidepressant can be very stimulating as well for some people, and Prozac is one known for that.  That can increase your anxiety rather than help tamp it down.  Much of this typically happens during the early phase of taking the drug and can stop over time, but it can also just be that this is not the proper medication for you.  Given the intensity of your side effects you have to decide if you can wait this out or it's time to taper off the drug and admit it's not the right one for you.  You don't want to end up with emotional problems you didn't have before, something medication can cause.  Because you're afraid of getting violent, my own view is that you should strongly consider tapering off the drug.  After that, you can either try therapy if your life isn't so severely disrupted you can't function, or try a different antidepressant.  Good luck.
