Right side neck pressure

I have had for several months pressure in my throat  with occasional  pulsation and at times slight difficulty  in  swallowing. My phy sent me for a upper GI series thinking I had a diverticulum of the esphogus  this was neg. I also have pulsation in the Right ear.  My blood pressure  is fine actually low  115/58-60 dias. but lately running 140/ 80.
I  work out 3-4 days a week   I am in otherwise great health    Im 55 years old  5ft 7 and weight 135 pounds.
This is really starting to bother me and is now where  the feeling is constant.   What should I do?
I also am a nurse and I understand the anatomy  but there is really something wrong.

Few things...have you had your thyroid checked?  Did your doc order anything like an ultrasound of your neck?  Or any other studies besides the UGI?

I think that your symptoms could very well be anxiety, but it is good to r/o anything physical first.  My opinion would be to get a referral to an ENT and also request that your PCP check your thyroid if he hasn't already.

IF after all of that, you still get a clean bill of health, then it is time to address the anxiety!  Good Luck!

Hello there,

Pressure in throat and difficulty swallowing are common anxiety symptoms. Since your exam came back normal i don't think it's a medical condition but you could see an ENT to maybe have a different diagnosis.

Augmentation of blood pressure is also related to anxiety but can be related to another medical condition but those are issues you must rule out with doctors.

Pulsation in the ears can means clogged ear, but is also an anxiety symptom if the pulsation you mean is different from the feeling of something poping into your ear.

Anxiety can be certainly be something wrong but doesn't mean it has to be a medical condition. Therapy with a qualified psychologist is the first line treatment. Since you are a nurse i believe you are under a lot of stress with all the things happening in the medical community ( H1N1 for example ).

Hope this helps,
