GOD I NEED SLEEP

The panic attacks were really bad last night,I haven't slept in 3 days,I tried 2 librium and still nothing. This time I tried telling myself it is only a panic attack and it will pass, but no way,the rapid thoughts got faster and the panic attack came and I was helpless! This is getting ridiculous!I see my psychiatrist tomorrow, but he'll just say what he always says,"let's try this medication instead and see how it goes".You know you would think between the Morphine, percocet, ativan and the librium I'd be out cold, has anyone else gone through this ?I'll try anything,ANYTHING! Before I crack up!

I can tell you that I used to be on high doses of narcotics for chronic pain and my panic attacks we a million times worse.  I don't know if there was any correlation but my anxiety, although still pretty bad at times has lessenes the less narcotics I take.  I think part of it was maybe due to repiratory supression or me freaking out over feeling so sedated.  I am not in any way saying you should stop taking your medicaiton, just letting you know what I experienced.  Please PM me if you would like to talk with someone who has been exactly where you are and feels your pain!

I agree with cj completely.  Also, are you in any type of "talk therapy"?  IMO, that is vital to learn how to break the anxiety cycle.

Also....I don't know if you are taking the above mentioned meds together....and if you are....please be very careful.  Not long ago, a dear member of this forum sadly accidentally overdosed on a combination of meds and alcohol trying to get some sleep.

I would think rather than taking all of those different medications....perhaps trying a sleeping pill for a short period of time may be more helpful?  Why don't you see what the doc has to say about it?

The meds you listed are all strong medications that depress the repiratory system, so again, PLEASE be cautious.  I KNOW how hard it is and how badly you want to sleep, but it certainly isn't worth putting your health at risk in doing so.

Hang in there and keep us posted....you are far from alone in this!

How long have you been seeing your current psychiatrist? Is he a right fit for you?  By your comment, it sounds like the answer may be no.  In my experience, it sometimes takes a little trial and error (and some patience) to find a good therapist that works for you.  Having said that, just ensure you are completely honest with him and continue to expresss your concerns with him.  I know it can be extremely frustrating as this process goes on, but it can and will get better!  Keep us posted.
