The anxiety we feel isn't real.  Now, don't ask me where it comes from, but most of us aren't actually afraid at all of what we're anxious about.  It's just irrational.  So if you're not thinking anxious thoughts you can't be anxious, and when you're distracted by something else, you're not thinking anxious thoughts as much.

Just passing through guys as a survivor of anxiety... yes to the post above by tia and your own perception, that really does work, you can be in a store or anywhere and if you switch your thoughts off ,distract yourself  ..ground yourself,  you will be able to continue shopping and feel better ,it takes some practise but it works and hey anything is worth trying isnt it.It is always our thoughts that make us feel bad, I am quoting this from a book that helped me, called 'Slowing down to the Speed of Life" by Richard Carlson  Its Impossible to experience any negative feeling without first creating a negative corresponding thought.I found the mornings owrst, if I even feel a twinge now I say to myself,' its okay 'nothing is happening ', there is no problem ' over and over and poof its gone..as I say anything is worth trying, Good luck I feel you have a handle on it, and maybe your thread will help others, do the same.

your distracting yourself so you don't think about the attack as much.  That's why when I feel one coming on I try to call a friend, turn up the radio anthing to distract me from thinking about what is happening or going to happen.
