Twitching

So I'm on 50mg sertraline day 4 and on my last night of taking 15mg mirtazapine tonight after being on it a week and one day and feel it wasn't doing anything for me only getting me to sleep at night and feel rubbish the next day it wasn't lifting my mood just hope that these new sertraline will do the job, my main question is why am I twitching all the time?? Is it the mirtazipine or sertraline? Iv been here twice before and I do know I will be better in time but at the moment I'm feeling down as the meds don't seem to doing what I want them to do and lift my mood and have the natural sleep, when should I feel the sertraline start to work???

I noticed slight changes after about 3 weeks but it has never worked well for me.  I would feel better for a few days then bad for a few days and on and on.  I haven't been feeling the best for a few weeks now, hence I'm weaning off.  It just isn't a good fit for me.  I will say that I did sleep better on it.  I wish you more success with it than I had.  Many people have a good experience with it.  Enjoy your holiday!

Ok thank you when did you feel it was working for you I'm hoping soon as we are due to go away on holiday in the next couple of weeks and as I'm feeling now I don't really want to go unless my doctor is willing to send me with some zopiclone in case I can't sleep whilst I'm there and it ruins it for everybody that is going, I so hope and pray that I will be ok in two weeks time and the sleep comes natural for me and I can go away and enjoy our holiday :o)

It doesn't make me drowsy so I take it with breakfast.

Thank you both for the replies I'm going to stick with the sertraline as its only day 4 and stop with the mirtazapine tonight and not have it as I hate when I do fall asleep the next thing is I'm awake and don't feel as if iv been asleep for 8+hours and feel drained the next day from doing this, I would much prefer my natural sleep pattern back but I know that is not happening yet. Also I'm taking the 50mg sertraline AM is this a good idea or best to take it evening thank you so much :o)

I am currently weaning off of sertraline after 3 months.  I have experienced occasional twitching before falling asleep on this med.  I have also bit my tounge in my sleep on this med.  This isn't why I'm stopping.  It just doesn't seem to do the trick for me.  I could deal with the side effects if it did.  You may want to contact your doc if these symptoms continue.

Here's part of the problem -- it takes about 4-6 weeks to notice if a med is going to work or not.  Side effects, however, start immediately, because all these meds are artificial to the body.  Twitching is a common side effect of antipsychotics, but not so much with antidepressants, but we're all different.  It might be a problem with magnesium, as these meds interfere with the absorption of magnesium (and vice versa if taken at the same time).  Another part of the problem is that you're now on two drugs instead of one, so it's hard to know which effects is from the old drug and which are from the new one.  That's why it might be better to completely stop a med before switching to another -- it allows you to know which effects are from which drug and also allows any withdrawal problems to be dealt with because you know that's what it is, not a side effect from the new drug.  As for whether any drug will work or not, that's very individual -- people metabolize drugs differently.  You have to metabolize it well for it to work (and also to get side effects).  I wish we could tell you something that is true for certain, but certainty doesn't exist in this area.
