Xanax Question

So, I have been suffering REALLY bad as a lot of you may know for the past week and a half.

My Dr. knows I HATE benzos. I was dependant on ativan YEARS ago. I've been COMPLETELY Ativan/Benzo Free for 2 years now.

Long story short, I just weened off Mirtazapine after being on it for only 2.5 months at low dose. I stayed off Remeron for 6 days, but COULD NOT SLEEP. The sleep deprivation almost put me in the E.R. I could not function, and could not sleep, the anxiety was so intense, i shook/shivered ALL DAY LONG.

I reinstated 15mg remeron 5 nights ago hoping to stabalize and get some sleep. Still not really working.

My Dr. gave me a script of Xanax. He KNOWS I'm anti benzo after what I went through.

Let me ask you guys this. I took .5mg xanax last Tuesday just to kill the anxiety a bit. That was 5 days ago.
Last night, I could not sleep again, and was shaking so bad in bed from anxiety, that I broke down and took another .5mg worth of xanax. I finally got 6 hours of sleep last night, FINALLY, and felt a bit better today.

I see my psychiatrist tomorrow who is going to help me either get off Remeron completely, b/c I feel it's not working for me any more, or he's going to help me get some good CBT so I can sleep.

I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE BENZOS ANYMORE.

Tonight I decided since I've been through hell this past week and a half from such dangerous sleep deprivation, I am going to take my LAST and FINAL dose of .5mg Xanax.

That equals 3 times of use in a weeks time.

Do you think I will experience any withdrawal from taking it just 3 times? after being completely benzo free for 2 years? Or do you think I'll be just fine!?

Thanks!

My Psychiatrist told me to quit taking it. I've only been reinstated on Remeron for 6 nights. No longer works. Hard to tell if I'm sweating b/c of the Remeron or b/c of high anxiety.

My psychiatrist prescribed me 50mg Serequil XR. Said I should be sleeping soon and also help anxiety and appetite.

It's funny you said that about sweating with the Remeron...I did too when I was on it. I would sweat more all the time though, not just at night! It was really quite embarrassing! Lol.

Thanks guys! I took a .25mg xanax last night around 8:45pm. Chilled a little more. Then I took the 15mg Remeron at 10pm, which is no longer working for me. I just know it's not. It may actually be making things weirder/worse. Then at 10:30pm I took my last .25mg xanax. I crawled into bed, and before I knew it I was out.

I really needed the sleep. However, I woke up this morning, drenched in night sweats. I think this may be a Remeron issue. It either no longer works, or, it no longer works, and by me taking it, it's giving me night sweats and a rapid heart rate. I dunno.

Will let you know what the psychiatrist says today. :)

No, you won't have any withdrawal concerns after only 3 doses.  Anxious to hear what the doc says today about everything.  Good luck buddy!

@cnote, no, you wont go thru any withdrawals after just taking it a few times.
I'm a nurse. I don't know your background or why you despise benzos so much, so I'll tread lightly. That being said, if the Xanax helps you sleep and function, then why stop a good thing? If you have addictive tendencies, then I completely understand! However, just from reading your posts it seems you were in a better place the few times you took the Xanax. I'm a nurse and I have to take my anxiety meds. I'm just like you - scared to death of death and dying and eternity.
Again, I'm NOT telling you what to do as I don't know you or your history. Just a question.

No, you will not have any withdrawal if you only took 3 in a week.

I don't know about Xanax but if it is like Ativan, something to get rid of panic attacks in a hurry, then I wouldn't worry about taking it 3 times. I say this since it gave you needed sleep + you see doc tomorrow, so it seems you should enjoy the relaxation you got tonight from it and see what doc says tomorrow.
