Xanax withdrawals

Hi, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I was sick with slipped discs in my back for 2 weeks. I am on Effexor XR, Lamictal, and alprazolam. During the time I was sick I took more of my alprazolam to sleep. My usual dosage is 2 mg per day. One in the morning and one in the evening. I don't even remember how much I took for those 2 weeks. Probably 4 mg or more per day. About a week after I started feeling better, I went down to my regular dosage of 2 mg per day. It has been almost a month and a half and I am feeling very funky. Dysphoria, not wanting to get out and do anything, difficult concentration, not like myself at all. When I went to the doctor, he said to go up to 4 mg per day for 2 weeks and taper down until I reach my regular dosage. I have been taking 4 mg now for 4 days and don't feel any better. Will this eventually end? I feel as though I am losing it. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. I learned a very big lesson, I will never do that again

I think he put me on the higher dosage to try to get me feeling better, but it is really not helping. He wanted me to take the higher dosage and slowly taper down to 2mg. I know that this feeling I have is miserable! Thanks for your input Chrissy

That is a very high dose of Xanax. Why would he say go up to 4mg, if your reg dose was 2mg?  I would suggest calling him and telling him its too much and see if you taper down to 2mg or even 3 for one week then taper another mill down to 2mg. I suffer extreme panic attacks and the most xanax i take on a horrible day would be 1mg. Normal daily dose for me is .5mg
