Anxiety meds

I have been suffering from severe anxiety.  I am in a treatment center for it now (outpatient).  My concern is all the meds.  I started with Xanax which worked, but didn't last long.  My doctor now put me on Ativan to replace xanax.  Ativan makes my vision blurry, makes my stomach upset, and makes me shaky throughout the day, I also can't function on it.  My doctor also prescibed me resperidone yesterday - I'm afraid to take it, because I am on a beta-blocker everyday to stop my heart from pounding from the anxiety - and this medicine says it can change your heart rythym.  They also had me on Prozac for a few weeks - which did nothing.  Any suggestions.  I'm afriad to take too much medicine, but need something that is going to really help me - take my anxiety away and I will be able to function during the day.

Starting taking resperidone two nights ago.  I do sleep much better.  My husband said I was in a much better mood yeterday as well and had more energy.  As far as the Ativan goes, I went back to taking Xanax .5 mg 3 X daily until my appointment with the doctor tomorrow.  I guess I just have to find the right dosage to be able to function on these meds as I am out on Short-term for the last 5 weeks because of this.  Just want my life back.  Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.  It is the first time I have been on this site and is comforting to know there are others out there with the same thing.

Did you tell your doctors how you are feeling on the Ativan?  Since you are an out patient at a treatment center I'm sure you're dealing with psychiatrists who are very knowledgable when it comes to these types of medications.  We cannot decipher what drugs are best for us by just reading about them, the doctors know best. Prozac for a few weeks will not do anything because it needs longer to reach a full therapeutic level in your system. Did they just have you abruptly stop the Prozac and prescribed the new drug?  This could be why you are having problems while on Ativan. Most of us suffering with anxiety take at least two medications, an antidepressant and an anxiety medication. You can either call your doctor or talk to your pharmacist about your concerns. Pharmacists are very knowledgable and can tell you if there will be a problem as well.  I hope this works for you so you can start to feel better.  Take care.
