Im 47y/old female. a year ago I was very depressed after my father passed. Had a very low sex drive. Had lots of problems with my husband related to my low sex drive. My Dr. Started me on Prestiq 50 mg daily. I felt the difference withing a week. I was more energetic, more happy and my sex life improved 100%. I also lost weight. I'm writing this because I was searching information of the medicine for withdrawal. I ran out of the med for 2 days for the first time in a year and I thought I was going to die. I had nausea, headache, palpitations, I couldn't drive my head was spinning. Ugly feeling I changed my mood very drastically and started to yell at my 10 year/old. My husband had to come back from work and go to the pharmacy and pick up the med. I took it and withing 2 hrs I'm fine again. The medicine is a very strong medicine but have change my live for good I will recommended. Don't skip or miss a dose.
i am going to start prestiq for depression and am worried. any help would be appreciated.
Wish I'd had your doctor. I tapered off Paxil with a psychiatrist, but he never told me about withdrawal. When I went into it, he still never told me about it, and I've been a mess for three years now since.
the first batch of symptoms you mentioned were definitely withdrawal symptoms. Back when I was first taking Paxil I had gotten really sick and I had forgotten to take my Paxil for two days, and I got even worse. When i told my doctor I had forgotten to take my pills she freaked and told me It was the beginning of a withdrawal and I can NEVER do that again. and My advice if you are thinking of weaning off Prestiq, to talk to the doctor before you start. they will give you detailed information as to who to go off it.
My understanding is that Prestiq is Effexor, just altered a little so they could get a new patent. If that's true, you're probably going into withdrawal -- that's a common problem with effexor even just dose to dose. If you managed to successfully and not too painfully quit effexor, which is the worst of all these to get off of, then you should have the same situation with prestiq, since it's just an altered form of effexor.
