I get it about the Z or P thing. But let's get down to brass tacks, here. You have much more to say about the intake of the meds then you do about the onset of the panic, so go with the thing over which you have more control -the meds, which you can start and stop at will. And of course, you will want to consult with your doctor  or a shrink about it. As goodies says, not all the drugs turn you into a slobbering, flat affect, jaw dropped idiot. I took Klonopin and had no Z issues. In the end, the meds PLUS therapy will get you where you want to be -panic free and NO drugs (your brain will make 'em). If I could to chose between being a Zombie or having panic attacks then i know that I would chose to be a zombie any day. Having said that not all drugs turn you into a zombi perhaps you are just on ones that do not agree with you. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of changing your drugs if they are affecting you in the wrong way.
