can anxiety cause vertigo

Iv'e been bad with nerves since I was 20 am now 58. It still goes on. I take cymbalta for depression and diazepam. I seem to go 3 to 4 months then something happens. I started losing my balance a fortnight since and couldn't stand for long though I have catarrh in my head since the weather came colder. My gp gave me some tablets for it and its not as bad but ive been getting all the horrible nerve things (at least I think they are) my stomach turns, stomach ache, gripes, iv'e been weepy, having nightmares, out of breath, chest pains, feeling sick and faint, had panic attacks. You name it ! Problem is I'm worried stupid there is something seriously wrong with me. I just wish it would go away. I even think I'm going mad! Is anyone else out there like this. ?

I assume you've been through menopause? If you have (or even if you haven't) I would ask my GP to refer me to a doctor who specializes in your symptoms--but I don't know if it would be a neurologist (balance) or psychiatrist (panic attacks) or GI (stomach aches, etc.) Tell him you want to be thoroughly worked up by one or more of these. If you have a good relationship with your doctor, then talk to him and ask what he thinks you need in terms of further medical intervention. Good luck and God bless.

See your doctor about the whole picture and everything you are taking.  Also, look into getting into an appropriate exercise regime.  People can lose the need for any meds if they exercise a lot.

Anxiety can cause these symptoms, but you need to be thoroughly worked up by a doctor. Don't know how long you have been taking meds but there can be some side effects to the Cymbalta that are similar to those you explain.
