Citalopram is prescribed for a number of disorders, the primary one being depression. The dosage schedule in the PDR for depression is:

20mg daily am or pm, may increase if needed to 40mg/day after 1 week; maintenance; after 6-8 weeks of initial treatment, continure for 24 weeks (32 weeks total), reevaluate long term usefulness (maximum dose 60mg)

Fibromyalgia.....40mg for 4 weeks
Hepatic dose/geriatic.....20mg may increase to 40mg/day if no response
Panic disorder.....20-30mg/day

I'm not sure why you mentioned your migraines. Citalopram has no affinity for migraines and headaches is the first side effect listed.

I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist, but going by the medical literature, 60mg/day is not unheard of with citalopram in the treatment of depression.

This question needs to be addressed by your doctor since you obviously have some concerns about it.
