In time when anxiety is calmed down to a manageable level the feeling can go away. For me if I am in a rough patch with anxiety it will stay for a bit but with the help of different calming techniques and medicine it does go away.  If I am correct I believe it is caused by excess adrenaline in the system I.e fight or flight and it makes is hyper sensitive to our surroundings. I guess this makes is super beings of a sort : )

I also get derealization. I am only 13 years old. You go into this dream like state. Its almost like your watching you're life on television. You are not going crazy if you feel like this. It is just a symptom of anxiety. Car rides or lying down helps me to just relax. I have been starting to get DR randomly, Derealization is a very strange feeling you just have to learn to control it. Its protecting you're body from the stress you are going under.

It almost feels like an out of body feeling because people look less "grounded" and almost like you took a picture and removed the backdrop from a birds eye perspective.

I worried about it constantly, but got to a point to just live with it.  Has it ever gone away, no!  But I have gotten to a point where I'm able to accept it's there and still live my life.

Does this feeling ever go away?  And what did you find help remove it permanently?

Hey,

I suffered an anxiety attack and all the sudden people looked less real.  The world seemed flat and meaningless.  Does this sound like disassociation?

I hear stories of DR/DP, and my experience that I have been living with for 5 years is the perception of the world is "off".  Like the world feels upside down and people look detached from their surroundings.

Does sound familiar at all?  I first thought it was PTSD from losing my mom and having the anxiety attack.  Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Derealization is a symptom of anxiety, nithing more. Although it is weird and very uncomfortable, it will not hurt you. It is your minds way of protecting itself from the stress you are under.

You go into a dream like state when you are consciencous. That is why it feels so strange. I use to get this all the time. My first thought was that I was going crazy. Well, here i am to tell you I never went mad from it. Is it uncomfortable and strange? absolutely! Follow with it and accept it and stress. It will always pass. Like anxiety, if you fight it, it will only continue and get worse.

Good Luck and God Bless

I get it too.... i find distraction of my mind. not to think about going crazy at all. everytime the thought begins i diffuse it somehow..... not saying it works everytime or the first try but it does help a lot. and deep breathing... or going for a ride.... car rides help me. its when im sitting inside with derealization and high anxiety i feel the worse. i cant always drive but my fiance is extremly understanding and helps me a lot. if i need to go for a ride he takes me an he can calm me down usually to a tolerable level. i know not everyone has that support but maybe a friend or someone close u could find ? it helps me a lot.
