Help Tapering Off 150 Mg of Prozac

I have been taking SSRI's for the last 12 years.  Before I started taking all of this my weight was very normal and was in great shape.  I always felt good.  Now, I weigh 150 lbs. and am taking about 65 mg. of prozac every day.  I really want to STOP taking this!  I have gained about 25 lbs and I feel awful with this weight.  Is there a chance that I will ever be med free and not have panic???

You certainly can wean off of the Prozac.....but be sure you and your doctor talk about it.  Do not do it cold turkey.....its very slow.  I have just weaned myself (with my doctors help) off of 225 mg. Effexor.  It has taken me 6 months.  Yes....that is a long time...but it CAN be done.  I am only on 20mg. of Paxil and come July (after my body has a little rest from weaning) I am going to start to wean off of this also.  That is if I feel OK.

But it can be done!!!  Good luck to you.....just do it with your doctor.....Nana

There are honestly worse things than being overweight and I say this as a very overweight woman....however, if you want to try to come off of the AD, then you need to do it under a doctor's care, preferably a psychiatrist. Any AD should be stopped slowly. Going cold turkey is NOT a good idea!
What I said about being overweight is true, at least in my case. I am very overweight and although I would dearly love to be a normal weight, I decided long ago that if I had to choose between being overweight and anxiety-free or being smaller with depression and mega-anxiety, I'd choose the "bigness" over the misery-EVERYTIME! :)
I hope you can find the solution that's right for you! but talk to your doc first and work it out together!
Take care!
