ssris like Lexapro can cause sweating. All antidepressants can cause increased anxiety, especially at the beginning of treatment. All meds can cause dizziness, but so can anxiety. Here's the question: are these symptoms new since you were taking the Lexapro? Everyone reacts differently to different meds; this one may just need more time, or it may be the wrong one for you. Lexapro hasn't helped me much, though our situations are different, and I have also suffered a series of shifting side effects from it that are completely than those I had on other meds. Use your intuition and instincts; they will serve you well. Psychiatrists know very little about these meds; if the Lexapro turns out not to work for you, question your psychiatrist thoroughly on whether he or she knows how to properly take you off it, and if you don't like the answers, get another. This one has already shown not to understand the different side effects people get from meds. The proper answer should have been, I don't know, could be, might not be, let's give it a little more time and see. Not a simple dismissal, since nobody really knows.
I also take Lexapro.
And I can tell you it's not the lexapro. It's your anxiety. You are probably scared of taking the medication arent you? You are prob. just setting off the anxiety.
Lexapro though, at times can heighten your anxiety a tad... but it will go away!
My lexapro at first caused me to have a little bit of night sweats... and vivid dreams... but it all stopped in about 2 weeks. =)
Give it time. You will adjust, and I'm sure anxiety will be a thing of the past soon.
Good luck to you.
My anxiety manifested itself (among other symptoms) as dizziness, sweating/hot flashes and facial numbness (which was really scary!)
I would bet a million dollars that these are symptoms of anxiety either due to the start of lexapro treatment (I'll repeat cj29: How long have you been on it?) or maybe it's not the right med/dosage for you and you are still having the anxiety.
How long have you been on Lexapro? In my opinion, these medications can actually increase ones anxiety before it helps while the body adjusts to it. I am a big proponent on medications like Lexapro, but remember they can take a good month to 'kick in.' Did your doctor prescribe you a benzo for short term use while you start Lexapro (if you just started).
Also, anxiety can cause many symptoms as well. Are you seeing a counselor for talk therapy as well? Keep us posted!
