nighttime body jerks

This has been going on for some time now.  It's rare but my whole body jerks just before falling asleep.  Now every night my whole body jerks for most of the night.  I'm not aware of this and not sure what to do.  My better half says that it scares her and she thinks we are having an earthquake.  It wakes her up every night.  I know it's taking me out of deep sleep, but I have never noticed them

It is very common to have these hypnic jerks right before falling asleep.  However, if your significant other is saying that it is happening throughout the night, then I think you should make a doctor's appointment to see what they say about it.  It could be caused by any number of things including anxiety and that is why you should be evaluated.

Thanks a lot. I did just that.  The doc said it was anxiety due to PTSD from when I was in the Navy during Vietnam.  Thanks again.
