RA is that reacurring anxiety?? To answer your question only ur doctor will be able to say whether it will help YOU! but in theory it should help cause Paxil is used to control anxiety disorders as well as depression. 20 years to be on Paxil is a long time, you must of been put on the drug when it very first came onto the market.
Also did you tapper off slowly or come off quick? it could be a rebound effect from not having the drug. Best to have a chat with your doc.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects of Paxil is arthritis.
None of us on this forum is qualified to tell you if going back on Paxil will help with your symptoms. That is a question to discuss with your Rheumatologist.
I'm very sorry this has happened to you and I wish you the very best.
Peace

Since when is arthritis a side effect of Paxil? Ive never heard of this, ever! so am confused???
Never heard this either, so I looked it up and arthritis is NOT a side effect of Paxil.
Yeah i looked it up as well and even had a quick look at my old leaflet from the box, it says nothing about that........
In the 2010, 64th edition of the Physicians' Desk Reference, on pages 1594 & 1595 under the heading "Other Events Observed During the Premarketing Evaluation of Paxil: Musculoskeletal System: Arthralgia, Arithritis, arthrosis, Bursitis, myositis, osteoporosis, generalized spasm, tenosynovitis & tetany.
It is not a common side effect, but it can and does happen.
I had never heard of it either............until I did the research.

which web-site did you go to to get this? I would personally like to take a look as if its the one i think it is then i wouldnt give it much credit, ive scanned the site and there is so many spelling and grammer mistakes. It claims it is a Physicians desk reference but it reads like a 10yr old has written it. If you google paxil and arthritus it comes up as the first search option.
As you clearly know you have to be careful where web-sites are concerned as you never really know who has developed them and we could end up giving people false information. Plus for myself, this interested me as i was on Paxil for 13yrs so of course had a close look when you claimed this.

Hi, Just had a look and your link is not the one that i viewed before. Very interesting, thanks again.
To. Carmen_Sandiego
Thanks for the informative link!!!!
I didn't go to a web-site for the information. I looked it up in the PDR I have on my desk.
Peace

When you wrote to "Carmen_Sandiego" that the link she sent was not the one you went to can be explained quite simply. She copied that informaion directly out of the same PDR that I used.
If you bother to read down to page 36, you will find the information which I based my response on. I have included it here in case you're too busy.
"Musculoskeletal System: Frequent: Arthralgia; infrequent: Arthritis, arthrosis; rare: Bursitis, myositis, osteoporosis, generalized spasm, tenosynovitis, tetany."

Yes i was bothered to read to page 36 thank you and i did see what was wrote. Thanks again to carmen_sandiego for sending me the link and clearing this confusion up for both myself and mammo.
Next time the two of you get confused, why don't you simply ask instead of attack?
I had already given you all the information you needed to look this up yourselves but I appreciate carmen doing the work for you.
Have a really nice day.
Greenlydia
I see where nobody attacked you. You need to quit being so insecure and get over yourself!!!
Attack? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?
Carmen's not complaining, why are you?
Back to the subject at hand, rheumatoid arthritis is a whole different ballgame than the more common osteoarthritis. It's an auto-immune disease. Given that all medications are to some extent difficult on the liver and on the immune system as these are all foreign to the body's centuries of existence, it is possible that any medication can over a long period of use contribute to a weakened immune system. That being said, it's highly unlikely Paxil alone would cause an auto-immune disorder; it would probably take more. Given our society has a massive epidemic of auto-immune disorders and the huge number of toxic chemicals in our air, food and water and the number of antibiotics and other immune system weakening meds we take and our poor diets it's kind of difficult to isolate one cause for any auto-immune disorder. As for going back on the Paxil, it probably would hurt rather than help the rhematoid arthritis and should only be considered if you have the conditions for which it's intended. The reason any anti-depressant could hurt is that all of them can affect magnesium absorption, and that can increase the pain of arthritis. If you want to deal with the arthritis, in other words, after this way too long opus, treat the arthritis, don't go running to drugs or other remedies intended for something else.
