safe dosage xanax to avoid dependency?

Hi. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I have struggled for years to hold dwn a job as simple as bagging groceries, but my mind doesn't take to it. Xanax made be able to do anything, not because of the relaxation, but it was like it flicked a switch in my brain and drastically increased brain function. If i continue on a lw steady dosage of xanax will the pyhcological effects remain even though the euphoria dissipates because of increased tolerance? Also is there a low enough dosage of xanax to take to avoid the danger of dependency on the drug? Thanks for any advice on this question.

Long term regular use of Xanax can be tricky, due to the tolerance issue mainly.  Has your doc ever tried you on Klonopin?  That would be a more optimal choice for long term use, because while it is also a benzo, it works a little differently, it's a longer acting benzo, so it's more appropriate for regular use.

I would agree with Rosy that you need to discuss these issues with your doctor to see what options make the most sense.
