5 1/2 months preg. with Anxiety ;(

Hello,
i am 25 years old , and have been Dx with anxiety last year Jan 2010 and was given Zoloft 50mg to be taken everyday in the morning . I became pregnant with my first child this past Sept 2010 and went off the medication cold turkey. For the past couple of weeks my symptoms of anxiety started up again. I feel on edge, i am scared for no apparent reason, heart beating super fast and thinking scary thoughts. In the past i did meet with a therapist and she was great, she made me feel at ease and also with the help of yoga and the meds i felt alot better. My question now is since i started back up on the zoloft 6 days ago ( i was told by my OB to take 25mg and gradually increase to 50mg one week after) if this is going to have adverse effects on my baby girl. I worry so much about PostPartum depresion, not being able to care for my baby or worse. Will my pregnancy affect the way Zoloft works for me? Being that with all these different pregnancy hormones i was maybe thinking that the medication will start to work a little differently. I do have an appt in Feb with my OB and on Sat with my therapist, its just such an awful feeling when your constantly thinking the worst. I just want to be a great mom and be able to care for my little one with out any worries. I want these horrible feelings and thougts to GO AWAY!!

I am glad that you are talking with your OB about your symptoms and treatment options.  We have two friends that are pregnant and they are both actually on Zoloft as well.  We also had a friend that took it while pregnant and she has a beautiful four year old girl.  In my opinion, you have sought the advice of an expert and are staying educated about what you can and cannot do.  There are risks in everything we do, but we have to way the risks vs. the benefits of anything we choose.  I support your decision 100%.  Our doctors told us there is much greater risk for mother and baby because of anxiety and depression, so if you get a handle on that then I believe you are doing the right thing...keep us posted!!

hello, im also battling anxiety, and im just about 9 months prego. i deliver on jan 31st a scheduled c section. i was on paxil for many many years, which seemed ok. and then right before i got prego my dr switched me to zoloft @ 25 mg to start, because it's safer for the baby. since then , my anxiety got worse...so over the last 5 months my dr and I have upped' my dose and i am now on 100 mg.

my physical symptoms of anxiety are horrible! fast heart rate, twitching muscles, constant worry and fear, and my hypochondriac tendencies are kicking in thinking all of these physical symptoms of anxiety are some horrible disease lol. but ive been to enough drs' over the last couple of months to be assured it's only anxiety, as much as it stinks.

im just glad its almost over.
