Weaning off Klonopin

I've been suffering from Chronic Tinnitus for more than ten years.  I was operated on both  ears do to otosclerosis in 1989, which was causing moderate deafness. I've been inserted ventilation tubes three times on my left ear do to recurring Otitis (Serous).  Because of the anxiety , difficulty sleeping and depresion I was suffering do to the Tinnitus my doctor (ENT Specialist) prescribed Klonopin .5mg HS initially. Now I am taking 1.5 mg at bedtime. I have been taking this medication continuosly for many years. I have read I could create an intolerance to this medication. I've tried weaníng myself gradually but I get panic attacks, inmsonia, and the Tinnitus gets worse.
Where I live there are no doctors specialized in treating patients with severe Tinnitus. I've tried other natural aids, no relief.  What can I do to wean off from Klonopin, are there other alternative for this suffering.

Thank you for your comments. They have been very helpful.  I know that being on Klonopin has greatly helped my Tinnitus and resulting anxiety and I haven't developed a tolerance to it yet.   I have not visited a psychiatrist yet but I been thinking about doing it.  Sometimes its hard to find a good and caring physician. One doctor told me once that I have to learn to live with it and did not even give me any treatment or recommendations.  Never went back to that doctor again.  I guess I was concerned about being so dependent on this medication.

Benzos are difficult to stop taking.  It has to be done slowly, at your speed, under the care of a knowledgeable psychiatrist.  If you had developed tolerance to it, you'd know it, so best guess is you haven't -- tolerance would most likely feel a lot like it felt when you were in withdrawal from trying to stop taking it.

I have suffered for many years with very bad tinnitus, and have found there is no cure.  You can develop an intolerance to this drug but obviously you haven't, since your symptoms come back only when trying to wean off of it.  If it's working why change it?
