Ha! I can SOO relate. I am a recovering alcoholic. I used to drink to get "rid" of my anxiety. Well as time went on it made my anxiety 10x worse, over time. It drove me to the point that i totally quit. I used to wake up w. my heart pounding, palps, etc.. it was horrible! It literally scared me enough to stop drinking! I guess i had 1 good thing come from anxiety :/
In my opinion, if you are a sufferer of anxiety, remember that drinking can cause all sorts of side effects that we as anxiety sufferers don't care too much for sometimes to include a pounding heart beat and palpatations. I don't think it is a big deal to tip back a few as long as your are not on medications that preclude you from doing it and can do this in moderation, but if it does bring out weird and strange feelings, why put yourself through that?
