H Got the new BP monitor today

It is pretty nice and takes 3 readings for an average which I can then upload directly to my PC. I have taken the sitting, standing, a lying down reading so far and they are all just about the same, as has all of my readings today. I also have compared these reading to those by my old BP monitor and they are consistent with each other.

It figures that I would get this BP monitor and my BP would behave. Well at least I am getting a base line for future reading if and when they go weird again on me. :)

Dennis

PS my BP is averaging 138/78 so far for the day.

Marie,

Yes it is very seamless to do it this way. Before I use to make at least 4 or 5 trips between my BP monitor and computer in order to note my BP reading. I have a terrible memory and also tend to transpose numbers.

Thanks for all that information!  I am swimming in BP numbers here.  I really need to get it down in some other form then written on pieces of paper.  It all sounds very seamless.  Love that.  Anything to make this all simpler.  Marie

The new BP monitor is by Microlife and yes it does come with software, But I have not tried the software because instead I am using  a couple of web site to help me track all aspects of my health.

The two web sites I am using actually work together as 1 unit and are free. The first one is Microsoft's Health Vault and is where all of your health data is stored.  It also is where health data for at least 2 of the medical ID companies is stored so you don't have to go all over the place to put together you information and keep it synced.

The second site is from the Mayo Clinic and is where I am managing not only my health records, but also my appointments with doctors. It had a prepare for appointment feature that allows you to print out all the relevant data and notes on concerns you want to bring up with you doctor to take with you to the appointment. This includes the graph and a table of your BP readings. The BP readings also include a comment section so that you can note what was going on when the reading was taken ( sitting, laying down, vertigo ). If I want a graph of my pulse along with the BP I go directly to the Health Vault site as this site doesn't include a graph with my pulse while Health Vault does.

My BP monitor uploads directly to the Health Vault site through their Connection Center software. I just plug my monitor into my PC with a USB cable at it all happens automatically. You can also get other devices that also upload into the Health Vault such as scales, peak flow meters, Glucose meters, O2 meters, and even ECG machines.

Another feature of the Mayo Clinic site is it includes an interface for sending secure email with you doctor ( if they are set up for it ) to include the data from the Health Vault. So if you are having a problems you can send the info to your doctor so that he will get a better picture of what is going on.

Oh and CVS and Walgreens have a set up so that your Rx info will go directly into the Health Vault so you don't have to enter all of the info when you get a new Rx filled. I do get any Rx filled at them because I get mine from the VA but that seems like a really nice feature.

I am currently thinking of picking up some Health Vault capable exercise equipment so that I can directly record that stuff as well. By the time I finish exercising I am to exhausted to enter anything about what I did. :)

PS most of this info and a lot more you can get from healthvault.com

I am wondering if this is one that comes with software so you can graph your readings?
It sounds like a really nice one and good to know the two devices agree with one another so you can use one as a back-up if needed.  Is it by chance an Omron?

I have a simple Omron that I am using that has memory and that is very handy.  I would like the ability to make graphs.

I am trying to understand my BP changes but some of it is confusing. Over the weeks since I have been diagnosed it is generally trending downward.  That I would think is due to neural changes.  What is confusing me right now is when I was first diagnosed it tended to be higher when I lay down.  Now it is lower.  Have no clue why.  Today it was pretty consistently in the 112-120/69-80 range during the day.  I was well hydrated having about 8 0z. of water/hour in the evening and only very mild activities.  When I lay down tonight my BP dropped down to 88/43.  When my dog wanted up to go outside it jumped up to 160/101 even though standing up usually causes a drop in BP.  It then settled down to about 126/81 while I was still up.  When I lay down again it dropped only to 101/55,  It is very reactive but I don't understand why for weeks laying down made my BP go up and now laying down makes it go down.  The only thing constant here is change. Wish I understood it better.
