There really aren't very many specialists in the area of dysautonomia, I'm afraid.
I was told P.O.T.S. could be hereditary and later learned I have a second cousin who has been diagnosed with the same thing. I've not had any official testing to determine the underlying cause of my autonomic dysfunction. I was diagnosed with P.O.T.S. back in 2004.
Since you want to pursue learning the underlying cause, if you can find a doctor willing to help you with a referral to Mayo, that may be the way to go.
My neurologist is satisfied with the tilt table test results- autonomic dysfunction. And is treating me with Flurinef and Midodrine with no further plan. I now can get off the couch and somewhat function. However, I have no med hx or risk factors, and have been a competitive endurance athlete for 20yrs. I feel it is relevant to search for the mechanism or cause of my autonomic dysfunction. I am trying to find the right place and doc to help me do this. Besides Mayo, AZ does anyone have suggestions for the NW?
I don't go to Mayo or Dr Goodman but know people who are. Yes they have a good autonomic dysfunction dept there. I think to start a referral from an MD is needed or at least faster. You can go on their website or call them though to see what they recommend on appts.
