A few questions

I had my first mammogram on Fri and the reading came back saying "1.4 oval equal density mass in left breast us suspicious of malignancy."  I then had an ultrasound and it said "1.2 oval mass with circumscribed margin in the left breast at 8 o'clock middle depth. The oval mass is hypoechoic."  My BIRADS score is 4. Should I be worried, or is it possible fibroadenoma. I just had my biopsy yesterday.  Also, I was wanting a clear understanding on hypoechoic. Thanks

Hi,

A BIRAD 4 means that you will have to see a breast specialist and get a biopsy of the lesion done to rule out a malignancy. This is required to establish a confirmed diagnosis. Since you have got the biopsy done, you need to wiat for the reports to come in.

A hypoechoic lesion means that its density is less than the surrounding normal breast tissue which is said to be isoechoic on ultrasound. Further investigations like a biopsy would be required for a confirmed diagnosis.

Let us know what the specialist advises and if you have any doubts.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Regards.

Hypoechoic is a term used in Ultrasonography ... it means that the lesion reflects very few of the ultraound waves. A fair percentage of BIRAD 4 ratings are something OTHER than cancer.
