Breasts and overies removed

I had estrogen positive stage 2 breast cancer eight years ago. I had my overies and breasts removed because I have a family history of breast cancer. I' m currently taking Evista and my estrogen level is the same as a mans. Am I out of the woods yet?

Hi,
No one is really out of the "woods".... Breast cancer can recur at any time, but most recurrences occur in the first three to five years after initial treatment.
Taking your medication, being vigilant about any changes that you may notice and keeping your scheduled follow-up appointments with your doctor, is the best thing to do to make sure that all is progressing normally.
Congratulations on your 8 years with no evidence of disease, this is really a very good sign! :)
Wishing you a continuing happy and healthy life for a very long time to come!
All the best!

Congratulations on your eight years! I hate to be the one to say this but there is no such thing as "out of the woods" with cancer, I wish there was.

What you've done is reduced your risk for another estrogen positive breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But that doesn't mean you won't get a different type of breast cancer in the remaining breast tissue or another part of your body.

But you know as well as I do that each year we are NED with cancer is better for our odds. Best wishes :)
