not 2006 but 2008

i went in for my first mammogram sept.2006 and they call me back for a second one and this one was a magnification films of the right breast in the MLO, CC, ML projections. and a straight lateral film was also obtained. FINDINGS:The calcifications in the right breast are seen over a large area in the upper inner right breast. Some of these calcifications show evidence of layering  on the straight lateral film, suggesting that they are related to milk of calcium. what are the chances that this is malignancy. In the right breast, in its middle-third, slightly medial to the line of the nipple and approximately 4 to 6 cm from the nipple and on the mediolateral oblique views directly behind the nipple is seen a small group of microcalcifications. Postinflammatory fat-replaced nodes are seen in both axillae..I had alopecia for over have my life, lost all my hair on my head twice. And had graves and a toxic gorter got treated now i have hypothyriodism , and i am 41 years old, I just wonder if this is all related some kind of way. By what i had told you from the findings of the mammogram and things what do you think my chances are that i don't have cancer? and how many type of breast cancer are there. Thank You Lovebirddiana.

I agree with Chris' (Healingwell62) comments. Calcifications are common and don't necessarily mean cancer. If the radiologist says to return in six months, it just means that they will keep a close eye on the calcifications and do semi-annual mammograms for a year or two to see if there is any change from your initial mammogram. I would call the physician that ordered this, your first mammogram and express your concerns and questions to him/her. Since this was your first mammogram, the radiologist doesn't have earlier films to compare this one to.

As Chris notes, if there is a doubt in the radiologist's mind, typically, he/she will do an ultrasound while you are there in the office/breast center.  You would then be referred to a surgeon by your regular doctor  or gynecologist -whoever ordered the mammogram-for a biopsy if there is any uncertainty..

Don't panic just yet! And please know we're thinking of you and praying for your receiving good news soon. Let us know!

Hi,

I wish we could answer what the chances of having or not having cancer are.  I have to answer your question with a question:  What have your drs. recommended you do next?  Are you going for an ultrasound or a biopsy?  Not sure about how your different diagnoses interact, especially whether or not they could mimic symptoms of breast cancer.  Have your calcifications increased from past mammograms?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Warmly,

Chris
