Should I take Tamoxifen?
I have an 83 year old friend that has tried Femora and Aromicin and after 1.5 years, has gone off them because of side effects. She is now faced with does she take Tamoxifen. She fears blood clots and other side effects. What is the real risk of recurrence for someone that age and was early Stage II with three lymph nodes involved? (did Lumpectomy and radiation but no chemo). Is there some statistical analysis or models that show the probability of recurrence etc that she could reference to help her in this decision?
If there is I am not familiar with it .... I'm sure the Oncologist would have the answer to this one. Actually they all cause about the same side effects but it's a relative thing ... not everyone experiences the same problems with these drugs. You always have to compare the risk against the side effects and make your own decision. Regards ....
Ah - THANK YOU for this information! I wasn't aware of that age relationship. So if the post-menopausal medications create such bad side effects and the person goes off them entirely, is there a "formula" that can be calculated with risk of recurrence?
