Hi, I got something very similar from Tamoxifen, but the oncologists always say that these serious symptoms are not caused by the drug when we know better, as there are just too many of us.

As for Arimidex, I immediately had to stop taking it because of the severe Depression it caused, and immediately,

Back to the bones. From one moment to the next, my right knee caved in and it was, and continued to be the most painful thing I ever experienced in my life.

It turned out to be osteonecrosis mostly, where my right femur had started dying and small pieces of bone were falling into the knee cap.

The condition healed itself after a few month. I myself attribute the healing more than anything to the Vit D supplements I was put on as my Vit D level was so low, in a child this would be diagnosed as Ricketts.

If you have not done so, please have you own D level checked, as many of us breast cancer patients, more than many, have low Vit D levels.

I would love to her more about your experience, Jocie.  I took Arimidex only two doses, yes only two pills, and have been in extreme pain ever since, I think it has ruined my hips.  Doctors can find no other reason and I don't know what to do to fix it because I don't know exactly what Arimidex did to me but it's a valid horrid extreme side effect and I am praying I can get back to normal life.  Right now I mostly take tylenol with codeine and ibuprofin and try not to move too much which is lousy for a single mom.   I am very angry and think Arimidex should have pre testing to find genetic markers for those of us that apparently severely react to this drug.  Susan   I can give you my email address if you want

Hi Jocie, i am sorry to hear that you are having such problems but i myself was unable to take arimidex due to the severe depression it was causing me.However my neighbor and i were just discussing this last night and she was like you and unable to even stand up and in severe pain. She told me that her oncologist did not want her off of it and until she told him she was not going to take it anymore,he then switched her to tamoxifen and her legs are fine now but it took time. I am on the tamoxifen, it has side effects also and a possiblity of getting uterus cancer but unless you have a history of cancer chances are very slim.Try talking with your oncologist again and tell him that you are not taking this drug and to switch you to one that you can take. I myself had to try 2 before they put me on tamoxifen and that was due to me having a cancer history. I pray it works out for you as you have gone through enough without these drugs causing you more pain. love maggiemae

hi japdip
thanks for your quick answer..I have already spoken to my ocologist and he told me to stay on aridimex. but I have stopped taking it ,but im afraid the damage has already been done
I feel betrayed by this as they knew it could cause this and didnt give me a choice by discussing this with me and all the other women I have talked to in the same situation. my life has been destroyed,I cant even get out of a chair on my own, I was very active before this.all other treatment for my cancer went really well. and my cancer was very small caught very early, very wide margin all clear in operation. but my ocologist didnt say anything about being left as a cripple for the rest of my life by taking his advice to take aridimex   love to all xx joie28a god bless.

I would advise you to have a serious discussion with your Oncologist regarding the problems you are having with the Arimidex. There may be another medication that you could switch to that wouldn't cause so much pain and destruction. You might even have to weigh the benefits vs. these severe side effects and have to discontinue the drug on the basis of the findings. Please understand that I NEVER encourage anyone to stop taking a drug but rarely there does come a time when it may be necessary to maintain some quality of life.   Regards ....
