I am 48 yrs old with no history of breast cancer in my family. Recently one morning, I awoke and felt a tender node in my left armpit. Within one hour, the entire armpit was swollen and puffy. It decreased slowly in a few days. I had not been sick, nor did I have any signs of an infection anywhere. I also had some tenderness in the breast near the armpit. My doctor ordered a left breast ultrasound, which I had 10 days later. After doing the scan, the radiologist wanted her to do the other armpit. To my surprise, I had several enlarged nodes there as well. The radiologist came in and asked me about my last mammogram, which was done in 2-10, and was normal. She wanted to see that report and I signed a release. All I was told by my doctor was that it was recommended I get another ultrasound in 3 months. Occasionally now, 2 wks afterwards, I have an achy feeling in that breast and also in the left armpit. That is also the time for my annual mammogram. I'm wondering if I should take these records to my gynecologist, and ask for a mammo sooner?
