mammogram recall

I am 51 and two weeks ago had my first mammogram. I am now at my wits end as I have just recd a call back for a 2 hour appt at the hospital in relation to a specfiic area of the breast and need either ultrasound or maybe aspiration and a opportunity to talk to the consultant radiologist and breast care nurse(according to the letter). Does this mean that they have found a cancer I have no other symtoms or lumps and bumps which I can detect

... No, a call back does not mean Cancer. What is does mean is that something unusual or suspicious was noted in the diagnostic images of your breast... and it warrants further investigation.  And, that's why the recommendation is the follow up diagnostics (ultrasound) with a possibility of a biopsy (needle aspiration)... to determine the nature of whatever it is that's noted in the "specific area" of your breast. There are a number of irregularities and abnormalities that can appear in the breasts and with many of them turn out to be benign in origin.

51 and your first Mammogram ??? NO, it does not mean that they have found cancer ..... there is a high percentage of call backs when a woman has their first screening Mammogram. It just means that there is something that isn't exactly "clear" on the screening views. There will be additional views done (different angles) and possibly an Ultrasound too. These films will be done when the Radiologist is present to read them immediately. It may turn out to be nothing at all; sometimes the breast tissue is folded over on itself and creates a shadow, etc. but disappears on film when the area is magnified or compressed. Your letter sounds like a Form Letter that covers any and all things that MIGHT occur during your visit. Calm down now .... to the best of your ability, OK ??  Regards ....
