microcalcifications on mammogram

I recently had a mammogram and microcalcifications were found scattered on both breasts with one small cluster (4-5). I stopped breastfeeding 2 months ago after nursing for 2 years. I also suffered mastitis twice and had several clogged milk ducts. I am going for a biopsy on both breasts next week and am of course worried. I have done a lot of research and am hoping that it is just related to my breastfeeding/issues. Thanks for your input.

I just read my mammogram report   There is not presence of calcifications. They aren't ruling cancer out. I have to have a needle biopsy done.

You have never mentioned the presence of Microcalcifications  on your Mammogram or Ultrasound. I'm curious as to why you are associating your situation to these who were diagnosed with clustered Microcalcifications. These are two entirely different problems or findings and not at all related to your possible Mastitis.    Regards .....

I'm almost going through the same thing. I'm in the process of weaning my 2yo from bfing and noticed a lump about 2 weeks ago. Had ultra sound and mammogram and both showed a fluid filled mass. But wasn't a cyst because fluid wasn't completely clear. I go this Wednesday to the breast surgeon to have a follow up and schedule a biopsy. In the meantime I am being treated for focal mastitis.

This summer I had my annual mammogram and was told that I had 24 microcalcifications where I previously had 2.  I had a surgical biopsy because they were right behind my nipple and could not be reached with a needle biopsy.  It was benign so PLEASE, know that these can be benign even when a "bunch" pop up out of what seemed like nowhere.  I have my follow up mammogram next week so hoping that there is nothing new there.  Merry Christmas!

Calcifications scattered about in the breast tissue are not an unusual finding and are not investigated further as a rule. When these tiny white dots (as seen on film) are noted to be in certain patterns / clusters they are of some concern and tend to be investigated further by some type of biopsy. Keep in mind that a great number of these biopsies will return a benign result. I would think that you have already been evaluated by a Breast Specialist since you are scheduled for a biopsy as that would be the normal procedure; a type of "second opinion" if you will. It would be rather rare to have something as serious as Breast Cancer in both breasts so I think your theory sounds quite possible.  Please ck. back with us when you get your biopsy results .... we are here to help in any way we can.  Regards ....
