probably worried for no reason.....

....but GRRRRRR, just the same :)

Hi ladies!  I am  34yrs old, just went for my annual check up and my doc felt two lumps that she wanted me to get checked out.  I went yesterday and had diagnostic mamo and an ultrasound.  Nothing showed up on either film but the lumps are clearly palpable....both my doc and I can feel them.  Whats next?  Should I ask for an MRI or just be satisfied with having invisible lumps?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom!

Hi,
Breast lumps can be many things and a vast majority are benign in nature. However, the general rule is that if a lump/s is detected in the breast, a thorough investigation is recommended.A negative mammogram and ultrasound suggests that there is no obvious malignancy,.but as none of these tests are perfect,it is reasonable to get the opinion of a Breast specialist who will examine you and decide if these lumps need to be further evaluated or just monitored to make sure that no changes have occurred..Normally,when a palpable lump don't show on X-rays, it is advisable that the nodule be biopsied to see what it is exactly.
A fine needle aspiration(FNA) is a simple and quick procedure that can be done by a Radiologist or a Surgeon.Fluid will come out if it's a cyst,.if not, tissue in the needle can be examined under the microscope for a definite diagnosis.
So please ask your doctor to refer you to a Breast Specialist. You really need to know what is going on exactly so you can have peace of mind okay?
Hoping that all will turn up just fine for you...
Best wishes and good luck!

I had a 10cm mass in my right breast (four inches) that never showed on a mammogram and finally a piece of it was found on an ultrasound. My cancer was invasive lobular carcinoma. That type of cancer is one of the 15% of cancers that do not show up on films. Even worse, you couldn't feel it. The MRI, however, did show it all. I was 18 years your senior when I got it.

It's most likely nothing to worry about but until you know that for sure you will worry about it. Follow up, find out, advocate for yourself. Be well :)
