what to do

I had a mamogram last week first one since the '70's. Something was seen and I was called back for more mamograms and then they did a sonogram while I was there they said I had one lesion that was round and smooth it was 8mm, and one that had rough edges that was 1cm. They wanted to do a sonogram guided core needle biopsy in the next week or two. I have not been for a physical in 25 years because of my fear of needles. I do not want to have a core needle biopsy. Are the sizes of these lumps large or small in the world of breast cancer and can I wait 6 months and have another mamogram so they can see if there have been any changes.
Thank you

I agree 100%---DON'T WAIT!!!! I've had biopsies three different times on five different areas and none of them was really painful. Talk to your doctors and let them know your fears---they will do all they can to make it as easy as possible on you. I was very fearful my first biopsies and my doctor gave me some conscious sedation, so I was out of it until it was over.Waiting could mean WAY more than just a needlestick or two!!!
Do what you have to do, but please get the biopsy done as recommended. On a personal note, I had a sister who waited two years for her mammogram and died of Stage 4 breast cancer before she was 51. I don't want anyone else to have to go through that. The people on this forum are extremely supportive and helpful and none of us want to see a cancer that could easily be cured go undetected.
I'm hoping for an easy biopsy and benign results for you, so please follow through!

Some more advice ..... you CANNOT wait 6 months; PLEASE have the recommended biopsy very soon. These findings are nothing to be waiting on for fear of a needle. A numbing medicine will be used so you should not experience much discomfort but even if you do   HAVE THE BIOPSY DONE SOON !!!

Hi,
The smooth lump and especially the one that has rough edges have to be biopsied sooner or later.I don't think that waiting is the right decision to make. The size of the lumps is not the problem ,but the shape of the lumps are.I understand your fear of needles, but it can be controlled by medication that your doctor can prescribe for you before having the biopsy which can be a bit uncomfortable, but not painful.

What concerns me is that you are reluctant to have the lumps tested....and there isn't any other way to know for sure unless you have a biopsy done.I am afraid that waiting would not change anything ,but could potentially put your life in danger.I urge you to be strong and courageous...have it done, take someone with you for moral support.Soon it will be over and you will have the peace of mind that you won't have if you wait any longer....
Take care and best wishes.
