I am diagnosed with the exact same scenario. Stage 1, tumor was 1.5 cm, Her2+, ER-/PR-, Grade 3 IDC. My treatment (not that yours will be the same).
(TCH) = Taxotere, Carboplatin, Herception
Chemo - 6 rounds of Carbplatin/Taxotere 3 weeks apart.
Herceptin weekly. Once Chemo complete, Herceptin every 3 weeks for me until Jan 2011.
33 Radiation Treatments.
I would not have needed Chemo or Herceptin if I was Her2-.
I wish you the best of luck and definately do your research. Did you find out if you had any lymphatic or bloodstream invasion? Get a copy of your full pathology report and read it and do some research. That's what I did so I knew everything I could know about my cancer and actually understood it. Sandra
As japdip noted, your oncologist, who has all of your information plus knowledge and experience, is the one to discuss all your treatment options with you and decide which treatment offers you the most benefit.
Generally, her2 positive tumors will be treated with Herceptin and estrogen and prgesterone negative tumors will be often be treated fairly aggressively with chemo. Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors are followup treatments that are prescribed for estrogen and progesterone positive tumors, and do not look to be effective in your case.
Herceptin has been studied to be effective when it is begun with other chemotherapy drugs. For instance, I took TCH (taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin.) It is then continued for 11 or 12 months in most cases. No major studies have yet reported on its efficacy when prescribed alone.
Research reputable sources of information and talk to your doctor, make a plan and follow through. We are here to offer support and help you through. I am thinking of you.
We here cannot prescribe or even advise to this extent. Your Oncologist is the person on whom to rely when it comes to the proper treatment program that will benefit you taking into consideration your particular cancer. Many factors need to be taken into account before formulating the best treatment plan for each individual patient. Best wishes for successful treatment. Kindest regards ....
