Cat has a hot foot

Well here we go again. Ok, My cat has a swollen, hot and sore back toe nail. I no it hurts her because she wont let me look at it. It has a bad odor so Im thinking its infected. The spot is in the middle between her toes. I have 4 cats and something is always wrong so im always putting money into the vet. I have alot of amoxicillan. I no i probably shouldnt give it to her because its 4 months old I did give a little pain pill. Is there anything that i can do to help her without taking her to the vet?

That sounds like a good plan-shaving her paw.  You could get someone to help ya do that.  That's what a vet would do anyway.  If you see an injury on the surface of her skin, you can put some hydrogen peroxide on it.

How's the paw now, I know it's been a few days?

the amox was hers from before but i dont have 10 days worth. My new plan is after trying to look at it today is shave a little bit of fur off if shell let me. There is something pokey that i can feel but her hair is in the way and i cant get a look at it. I dont no if its her nail or a thorn or what.. I took your advice about the cat box and am cleaning it like its my job, o wait it is my job. anyways hopefully it will heal in time but im going to give it just a couple more days and if there are no signs of improvment ill take her to vet. thanks again.

Thank GOD the pills are for cats.  I freaked out when I read that earlier about pain pills and amox.  I'd say you did the right thing by giving the cat the pills.  I would've done the same thing.

What I would do is to make sure that you have at least 10 days worth of the amox. and try to find the right dosing for your cat's weight.  That's very important.  And, yes...I promise that you can find this info on-line.  And, clean the litter box like a lunatic until your cat's paw heals.

Let's cross our fingers that the antibiotics will work.  If it doesn't or you don't have 10 days worth, then you probably should bring the cat to the vet.

Please, keep me posted!!  =)

No its not the kitten this time shes all better. its her mama. I have no idea what she could have done. The amox. i have is 4 cats and the pain pills i have are for cats also. They were all given to me from my vet from before visits. I think the amox exspires after 10 days but am unsure. She just sleeps around right now. after the pain pill yesterday i can tell it helped her. Thank u 4 ur concern and help.

HI, WOW.....back again????  Are you talking about the same kitten that had diarrhea so bad before?  I hope that has cleared up!!

About the kitten's paw-do you have any idea what happened to it?  If I were you, I would keep the litter box super clean, like more than twice a day scoop it out.  The litter box staying super clean will help to heal her paw and prevent her reinfecting it.

I honestly have no idea if amoxicillin is safe for a kitten.  You can probably find this info on-line.  You should be able to find the right dose for a kitten......I know that vet meds go by weight.  Is the amoxicillin that you have specifically for cats and it's not for humans?  If it's for humans, I wouldn't even go there and give it to the kitten.  That would be too scary.

I've got to ask.....what pain med did you give the kitten?  There is no safe human pain med for cats.  NONE!!!  Ibuprofen, Acetominophen, and Sodium Naproxen is extremely toxic.  I hope you didn't give her any of these drugs.

I hope this has helped ya out some!
