Cat is extra hungry

Hi

I have a 10 year old cross Maine Coon cat who has moved house (2 months ago).  Appears to have settled in quite well.  In his previous residence his appetite was moderate and a little on the fussy side.  Since moving he is eating anything that is put in front of him, however around 2 pm each day is looking to eat and again in an hour's time.  My partner has adopted a stray cat who comes and goes and the 2 cats just tolerate each other.  My cat has never had to share a house with another cat or 2 more humans - before it was just me.  He has just had a tooth extracted and a general teeth clean as well as a shave as the weather is becoming extremely hot for him.  What could be wrong with him?  It's great to see him with an extra good appetite but it's just a shock to see the reverse happen with it.

Regards

Paul

Thanks for your comments.  I'm inclined to believe it is a territorial thing as well. They are not being fed together now and that seems to work okay.  They are both fussed over equally and they seem to be more content.  Eating furiously now seems to have quietened down considerably.

I agree with AnneBrooke. Most likely being territorial, with a combination of stress over all the changes and new environment. I would give him extra TLC until he becomes used to everything. Give both cats treats and love when they are together so they learn to see each other as a positive thing.

It could be the competition, stimulating his territorialism over food, for sure.  If he has been exposed to prey and / or fleas, it could also be a tapeworm.  (Ya gotta eat more when eating for two.)  Possibly take a stool sample to the vet.
