Cat not eating - being treated for Hyperthyroidism

Our cat was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and is being treated with another exam due in 30 days.  She's been on the treatment (Methimazole) for 8 days doing very well.  Eating, no more vomiting, seemingly gaining a little weight.  However, on the 9th day, she managed to eat a little food with her meds, but did not get her evening dose as she has refused to eat.  She's acting strange and is losing her strength rapidly now on the 10th day.  We have an appointment with the vet at 2:00 this afternoon.
We don't know her real age as she came to us five years ago and adopted us - after we searched for her owner with no luck.  She was not a stray.  The vet examined her and said she seemed to be 8 or 9 years then.  She had lost all but four of her teeth when she was finally able to look in her mouth.
Our current vet explained that Hyperthyroidism can mask kidney failure, thus the re-exam in 30 days.  My fear is that we waited too long before testing and her kidneys are failing as she has every symptom now of CKD.  Sabrina is a tiny black cat who has brought much joy to us and we only want what's best for her, no matter how much we will miss her.  We've been through the kidney failure several times with other cats and are familiar with the symptoms and are not optimistic about bringing her home from the vet today.  Anyone else with experience in kidney disease in older cats? We think she might be older than 14 or 15, and for the past year or so has been looking like an older girl (not quite as sleek and shiny), a little weaker, etc.

I am also dealing with a kitten refusing to eat, so I know the frustration. its been my experience most cats do not like the foods the Vets sell....so I would keep offering Sabrina the Blue Buffalo and hopefully with the meds to settle her tummy she will feel more like eating by today..good luck:)

The Dr. thinks she might be having a bad reaction to the meds, so she gave her fluids, a shot for vomiting and also a kitty "pepcid".  Also food that is supposed to be easy on her tummy - like tea and toast for people.  If no vomiting after eating, give her half dose of meds tomorrow night.  Gliche is that she is refusing to eat anything at all after feeling better soon after.  About 1/2 hour after arriving home, she was on her blanket on the bed and won't eat or drink anything.  Sabrina is extremely choosy and only eats one kind of wet food and Blue Buffalo kibble.  She won't touch the stuff from the vet so we tried her usual wet food.  No luck.   So - I phone vet again in the morning to see what the next step is.  Dr. said all was functioning well, so we'll have to take it from here.  Thanks for your support.

Thank you for the kind words. I have already been to the site you recommended and while some of the testimonials of successful treatment for CKD are encouraging, I am afraid we just cannot afford the ongoing vet bills as my husband is "between jobs".  However, we will wait and see what our vet has to say this afternoon.  Today is my husband's birthday and our wedding anniversary.  Go figure.
