Cat with a cat bite infection

I have a 15 year old mostly outdoor cat, who is very territorial and obviously got into a cat fight, not sure when though. I noticed two puncture wounds under his right ear, and we have a topical herbal medication that I applied to it- called Black Claw, it help it dry up more but he kept scratching at it and opening it up. I tried salt water compressess and he wasn't too pleased with those, but it helped clean it up a bit. I purchased a small collar but he hates it and growls the whole time. Regretfully I stopped using it, and then an abcess formed under it, I continued with warm compresses to see if that would help and then he scratched it and lanced it himself- a foul stench and pus like fluid came out. now it is Easter weekend and can not get to a vet. I wonder what I can do to help him until I can get him to a vet. I put on the collar, he just wants out so bad and I wont let him. I have some clindamycin but not sure if that is an appropriate medication for a cat. he weighs 11 lbs.
Thanks Nurse nan

Thanks, actually the collar is no where near the problem, he just isn't a fan of it..lol He is in a much better mood today, we put him outside on a long leash which he was happier after that, he just wanted to be outside in the sun etc. Thanks for the link. Actually its easy to create a 25mg amount out of a 250mg, if they are capsules you disolve it in 2.5mls of water and each .5mls is 50mgs. Anyway, I'm not sure if I will need it the saline soaks are helping a lot- so hopefully it will be better by tomorrow if not, off to the vet we go.
Thanks and happy Easter!!

please keep the collar OFF it is only irritating the abscess.
The clindamycin for cats is normally in liquid form... b/c the dosage is so small compared to what a human would use...its pretty hard to cut down a 250mg tablet to the 25mg range...
is it liquid you have?
there are Clinics on call always for emergency situations, I would think since you have a nursing back ground a clinic may prescribe an antibiotic without needing to necessarily bring the cat in for an exam...I would try this first.
the warm salt compresses are good.

here is a drug site for Veterinary info.but NOTE it is for liquid measures.....all the best of luck to kitty♥
