Dillan has problems

I took him in today to be checked up by a vet. I got him from the shelter 4 days ago so knowing this....I was aware of the risks. Well...here are the results. Dillan has an upper respiratory infection. Dillan also has ear infection and is being treated right now with Tresaderm. Lastly, they found an area under the chin with no hair and all scratched up and itchy. They collected samples and the results will be in sometime.....in like 20 days. They suspect 2 things: Ringworm or my cat, Abby, scratching him  when playing with him. If Dillan has ringworm they might report that and take him away from me. Ringworm is extremely contagious.

His UTI symptoms are only sneezing. The vet said she would not give me any meds to give Dillan because the cold is very mild. I am terrified my older cat will get infested. Keeping Dillan isolated is no use as Abby has already been exposed to it although he isn't showing signs of UTI (perhaps his immune system is strong enough?)

Is it really fair that they may take away my cat if he has ringworms? I can treat it with the help of a vet! I know it is highly contagious but is it really necessary to take away my cat just like that? I don't want to seem ridiculous, but I want my cat with me. Are they being fair here?

I knew I needed a drink, April. I just could not put my finger on what I really needed. Thank you April, lol, if I get drunk today, you are to be blamed LOL. (J/K)

Dillan is alseep. He doesn't sneeze when he is asleep, which is good, because this way I don't have to keep spraying disinfectant over and over lol. Yes, I am paranoid.

About the rats.....MJ talked about a lady whose rats died because she brought a sick one and the virus spread. The Bible talks about healthy apples and how they should not be mixed with an unhealthy/rotten one because then the good ones will rot. In this case it does apply to sick animals although I believe the writer meant something else which I will not discuss on the kitties forum ;)

Off I go. Bye now. I'll be back later on....

What are you guys talking about? What rats? I'm confused!
I watched Ratatouille yesterday for the first time! Can you believe it? I watched it at the dentist's office and I loved it! I went out and bought it. It's so cute! :)

Sorry, got distracted there. Where were we? Lol. Ok, PK, maybe I need some sleep too!

I understand how stressful sick kitties can be. It wasn't that long ago for me. You'll get through this and it will be worth it in the long run because you got a great kitty out of it!

Have a glass of wine, PK. It IS Friday, right? :)

MJ, the rat story just goes to show everybody that we stop learning when we die, only when we die. Not even the most experienced individual is safe from making fatal, terrible mistakes. I wanted a rat but hubby will not let me. Rats and pitbulls are stereotyped in a cruel manner by most. Nowadays I still hear some reporters spreading the news of how "Vicious, killer pitbulls are still being bred to fight blah blah blah" Then they basically imply pitbulls are naturally vicious, just like a lot of people still think rats are extremely dirty creatures. Can you believe it? We trust them to inform us yet some of them still twist people's minds.

Your African violets are just amazing, dazzling. Take care of them ;)

Sometimes you never know until it's too late... I've had african violets since around 1995, but didn't get "serious" until 2007. I bought some pretty ones at the grocery store. Some of them were affected by mold, but the ones I had seemed okay...

Well that mold started getting on the petals of all the flowers, and on our existing plants.  It wasn't fatal, but it took me ordering a special fungacide to kill it and keep it away. It set me back about $20, but it did eventually kill the mold and I use it ever so often to keep the mold down. I've also had thrips on new violets. (tiny little bugs that like to destroy flowers, but are hard to spot...)

With plants or animals better safe than sorry, even if it seems perfectly healthy at first.  In time both Dillan and Abby should recover. It doesn't sound fatal.
--------------

The rat story happened on another forum on another website about maybe two or three years ago. This person really cares for her rats and knows her stuff when it comes to genetics. She was breeding pet rats for sweet temperments to go to pet homes. Even with all her experience and love of animals, still nothing could prepare her for that moment.  She had good luck before. All it took was just a momentary lapse of judgement, then wham....Life is not fair....

Sara, cats and people can pass a few diseases to each other-rabies, toxoplasmosis, ring worm, and other fun worms!!  Most definitely possible, especially the worms-so we gotta be careful if we let our kitties eat out of our dishes.  LOL  I've been very guilty of that!!
