Is it normal?

Is it normal for cats to throw up sometimes? My oldest has always had a bit of a sensitive stomach, I think. Anytime I take her to the vet she gets sick, etc. But periodically either one of them will throw up for no reason and it looks and smells just like their dry food. Should I change their diet? My oldest is 12 years old. I don't know if it's a good idea to completely change her diet now or not. Otherwise, both cats seem healthy enough and act fine. I honestly think it's mostly my oldest and that she just has a more sensitive stomach. It's not every day but lately it's been maybe once or twice a week the last few weeks.

Thank PK, thanks everyone. Now I'm getting paranoid. Misha's only a year younger than Willow and I was just holding her tonight and realized she's lost quite a bit of weight, at least it seems that way. She's always had a belly but she feels much smaller. I think she's the one who's been throwing up. Is it normal for senior pets to lose weight? Dang, now I'm getting paranoid!

Let me send you a hug. I'm sorry about Willow. Know that he is resting in a comfortable place eating his favorite treats. I'm here my friend....

My younger vomits sometimes but he is naughty. He eats aquarium plants!! Well, he may be a vegetarian. Nothing wrong with wanting to be a vegetarian I'd say.

As far as food goes, they both eat very fast but I guess they can tolerate eating super fast. Right now, I got my younger wanting to eat a piece of cable.

But I do agree with the cat food industry and manufacturers in the sense that, as cats get older, their nutritional needs change. This is why sometimes we are surprised that our cats can't tolerate the foods that we've been feeding them since we can remember. Well...I guess they're just like us. And, sometimes adding (or getting rid of) nutrients (which may include vitamins, fiber, glandular supplements, Omega 3 etc) is necessary; just to keep them balanced.

Haven't you noticed there are foods for kitten, then foods for adults of up to 7 years and then you have foods for senior kitties? It is because age demands nutritional changes. But, April, you could get her assessed by a vet or just try adding supplements to her diet see how that goes.

My Stewie does the same, and its always always because he's so excited to eat that he eats too much too fast. He used to have a quarter can of dry food in the morning and he would gobble it and then later on.... yeah.

Jade has this problem too.  We switched her dry food to Wellness which has much smaller kernels than the previous food we were giving her.  She has only vomited once since we started it on Mar30th.  Besides being better food, I believe the smaller kernals are making a difference.

I have two cats who throw up from time to time in the same manner you explained above.  My vet said it's because sometimes they overeat or eat too fast.  I believe that because the two that throw up are my chow hounds!  LOL!!!!

If you are concerned about her diet upsetting her stomach then you could try helping her digestion process with digestive enzymes. Are you still feeding her the prescription food for her UTI? I would not change her diet yet. If you can find natural supplements that can help with her vomiting it would be great. It can save you the inconvenience of getting a 12 y.o cat to adjust to a new diet.
I have heard a product called Feline Comfort is good for that. Take a look see

For indigestion problems, the enzymes are the answer, and although I get mine at petenzymes.com, you can take a look at this one:

Let me know what you decide to do. Call me if you have to, and keep me in the loop with her situation.
