Her dose of antib's last night didn't go well at all. DH went in on the side of her mouth, but we think he didn't hit the plunger slow enough 'cause she began to wheeze, then cough and choke for a good 3mins. We were scared she inhaled it into her lungs. Needless to say, we didn't give her the pain med. She weaved her way back to her *sick* spot where she sleeps between the couch and wall and went right back to sleep so we figured, just leave her.
I woke up at 5am and DH was up with her and had taken her out for potty but she didn't go. She came right to me looking up at me, so she's feeling much better after sleeping all night. I went back to bed, got up at 8 to find her still asleep and a note saying she'd eaten two bowls of food. She's outside now. We'll get the antib in her at lunch and possibly the pain med. We googled last night for a picture (again) of how to hold a cats jaw open when giving meds so hopefully, with that picture in mind, medication time will go smoother.
Thanks for the hugs - I happily passed them on. Jade and I send our love. ((>^..^<))
aww its a struggle isn't it...some good vibes coming your way from us..hope the meds at noon will be more successful, go very slowly with the plunger give he time to swallow between each drop, so she won't aspirate. good sign that she's eating...
((>^,^<)) kitty hugs back to you both.....
Thanks for the good vibes, honey. Noon meds went much smoother with no choking, but looked like almost since DH still did it a little too fast. We got the pain med in her, too, and did that much slower. Besides the two bowls with DH, she ate 3 more helpings when I got up so she's doing real well, thankfully. She's outside on the cement all stretched out in the sun and looking completely and utterly adorable.
Aww....what an ordeal...but our girl is doing well. And DH is definitely a help. God bless all of you....I had no idea exactly what cleaning/extractions involved until I read this.
Diego seems so healthy....haven't had him back to vets in months. Sooner or later I will have to face similar stuff I am sure...boy...so expensive...but as Opus says...teeth problems can lead to major health issues..so we can be glad vets do this now.
I have a pic of her stretched out in sunshine...all better now! Diego has been in airconditioned apt sleeping on his back as usual:).......
I'm sooo glad to come on here and see that Jade is doing well. I'm so happy to hear she came through the ordeal just fine. Time for relaxation and sounds like she is accomplishing that quite nicely. Ahhh...>^.^< ...nice warm sunshine...what could be better than that!
Dh is very good about doing things for Jade. He's wonderful to tell you the truth. Glad to hear Diego has been healthy - that's always a relief.
The pain med made her so funny. She's been awake, or rather, not asleep - just lying on the cement with her head up. I think she feels high, lol. I came out to check on her a few hrs ago and she sloooowly turns her head, eyes at half mast and kinda slurred very slowly "oooow." Drinking water, too, for the first time in ages so maybe is giving her cotton mouth. Dread giving her the meds tonight and might forgo the pain med although I think she feels better with it so we'll see how the antib goes first, then decide from there. She's doing great overall and gave DH lots of lovin's when he was lying on the grass earlier - a good sign.
