Kitten had a concussion and now is blind.

I got two seven week old kittens the one I haven't names the other I named esctasy cause of how it acts. Esctasy got a sever concussion, when it happened she couldn't move, couldn't see, and started going to the bathroom nonstop. At first I thought she broke her neck or something of the sort. I got her to the vet within the hour and she lived through it. She's home today still with the concussion, but she's blind. The vet said he doesn't really know if she can recover or if she's gonna stay like that. Her identical twin won't look at her go near her, she don't know where she is or where to go, she wont move she just lays there and meows here and there. She don't pur anymore, she meows different, and she don't got full body control but she can get around easy enough. My question is, is there anything I can do to help the chances of her gaining her full mobility and her site back? I still love the kitten to death I just want her to be happy and back to the kitten she was...

My kitten has fully recovered. A concussion for a cat is actually very similar to a human concussion. It can stay blind, gain some of its site back so it can see shapes n minor colors, or it can very well gain its full site back and be back to normal like it never happened before. I'm sorry for the late reply I've been very busy. Some ways you can help you cat would be to get it vet prefered food that has vitamins that strengthen the eyes. If it happens to stay blind it will adjust sooner or later. It will memorize where things are so don't move its water n food dish or its litter box. It will rely mainly on sound to know when things are coming near it and if it is alone in the room. All of its senses will heighten with the loss of it's site. I hope your kitten has a full recovery like mine, I wish you the best of luck.

Did your kitten ever recover from the blindness. We are in a similar situation right now. Our kitten has a concussion and is blind.  We are just past the 24 hour mark.

Yes the links were very helpful. He can eat and drink normally from her food and water bowls. She sometimes puts her face to far in the water then meows at it and trys again and gets it right. Other than that she's starting to seem to be doing fine. So far I'm the only one of my family she'll come too when we say her name so naturally she's in my room which is where her and her sister was most of the time before hand so from memory she can find things easier. She found her way to the liter box by herself and used it once. I haven't seen her go anywhere else. There's a small pillow in the middle of my room and when she gets confused she finds her way back to it so that she can get to the food and water and or the liter box. I believe she will adapt to her blindness easy enough if she doesn't recover from it(hopfully she wont need to adapt to it). But your information and the information from the links you gave me helped me out on things I was confused with. If time and a bit of hope maybe her eyes will go back to normally. If not I'll make life for her easy and enjoyable as much as possible.

yes this site doesn't post email address's, so we'll communicate by posting here. I'm glad she is doing a bit better already, and I think you'll see a big difference each day....
I'm glad you know how to help her find her food and everything she needs...this is all very frighting to her right now too. so she is eating okay once you get her to her dish right?
have you read through the links I sent?

Thank you for your help, I don't really have a small area to keep her in so I have her in my bedroom. I have a hard time keeping the other cat away from her but the other kitten actually helps her out it guided her to the food and water and when it lays down she comes over and comferts her as she falls asleep. She's starting to walk better now though her one leg is still slow to respond so she hobbles a bit. I think she's gonna do just fine now, though I have to help feed her sometimes cause if she knocks over the food bowl she can't seem to find the food by smell. With all hope her site will come back at least half way along with all her other functions. I thank you for the information, if you happen to know anymore usefully sites you may have come across over time please email me the link at ***@**** or post them as a comment here. Thank you for the support and information, I can't explain how much it means to me.

I am very sorry to hear of your kitties injury. we are not Vets on this site however there have been other posts from readers of similiar injuries, all I can tell you is to keep the poor kitty isolated in a small area right now she is very confused and frightened too....she needs a small space of her own where she won't be bothered by the other kitty, her own food, water and litter near by so she can become familiar with her space and where her needs are....she may need help to find and become familiar with these locations and help by putting her into the litter box for awhile until she knows the location same with food and water...this all may take time and lots of patience....she maynot have bowel and bladder control for awhile but usually this all returns slowly...same with her sight, there have been others posting that later told us the sight did return, but not always.....I will give you a link to read from a previous poster and all she went through with her kitty, read it all well and follow the links given within that post also..

I can also send you more info on how to care for a disabled kitty, let me know if what you read helps...bless you for trying and all the very biggest hugs to your kitten.

click on this link and please read it all..
