My cats ears are really bad

I have a male cat he had a sore on both ears I treated his ears with ointment they weren't getting better so I went to the store and bought spray for cats that didn't work so i bought him to the vet they gave him a shot and gave me some antidotes the bill was almost 200 dollars and it did not work so I brought him back and they gave me a different medicine treatment for micro parasites and more antidotes and still not healed  now it is worse and I cannot afford to bring him back to the vet already spent over 300 and can't afford anymore what should i do anyone have an answer. He doesn't have ear mites and it is not in the ears. half of one of his ears are gone and spreading. I don't know what to do

Hi Insurance,

Just wanted to send my best to you and Taz. I do not know a lot about this ear situation so I have left the comments up to the people who do, like Ms. Jades Mom. I happen to think Jade looks adorable without those pesky ears, and I am sure Taz is going to be just as good looking. I think they look like Scottish Folds....and I just love those cats.

Anyway, so very happy for Taz and I know he must be feeling very happy Mom took such good care of him, and knew wht to do to help .

Luv to you both
Always keep us posted....and PHOTOS>>>>>Please????

Thank you so much for updating.  Wonderful to hear how well Taz is feeling now.  I believe our kitties ears were hurting badly.  Now that pain is gone.  Jade didn't used to like being pet anywhere near her head, but after the surgery, she now loves having her 'stumps' rubbed.

Yep, 2wks is how long Jade had her stitches in.  And we paid about the same price for surgery as you did.  Also, you can take the cone off as long as you are around to monitor Taz. Don't want him scratching at the stitches, is all.  Jade was boarded during her recovery.  We went to visit every single day.  She didn't need the cone beyond the second day.

I'm so happy all went well, Mom.  Keep us updated, k.

Well Taz had surgery two days ago and doing great, he is eating real good and he seems to be more happy, but he does hate that cone around his head but it is small enough he can do everything with it on.  He gets his stitches out in 2 weeks then it can come off. I hope this is the end with this problem, because I have no more money spent over 700.00 total but worth it, I will let you all know how he is doing, thanks for all your prayers Taz and mom

Good luck and God Bless to mom and Taz.   Jade is beautiful, and I love her ears, so hopefully you will have a great result.

As for the pictures, I've had one issue after the other with them, and finally used Mozilla browser, and converted the pics to a small size, less than 600 pixel, and GIF format.... and that's something considering I'm not tech savvy at all, but it worked after that.  Good luck!

Hello!  Wonderful news Taz is now fit for surgery.  I am who Opus mentioned earlier.  My Jade had her ears removed back in July of 09 with margins clean, so a success.

Let me ask you...has your vet given Taz a chest xray to make sure it hasn't metastasized to his lungs?  This is important.

I was trying to put a couple photos on public so you could see Jade before and after her surgery (if you are interested) but my photos won't load.  I'm not sure if it's an issue on Medhelp, or my computer.  I'll keep trying..

I'll be saying prayers for Taz, and look forward to your update after surgery.

HUGS to you!

Well I got the stuff I ordered in the mail about a week ago for Taz he sort of likes it and I have been putting bag of balm on his ears. Last night I noticed his eyes were blue instead of kind of yellow maybe this stuff is working and his ears aren't getting any worse, hopefully this will work I will keep you all informed and Thank you for your concern.

I only have experience with the liver failure subject but yes it is a matter of time. I had a cat Nermal and she was diagnosed with liver failure and she was a good candidate for letting us give her fluid once per week.  This went on for 2 years I believe.  Must be a cat that is willing.  She looked forward to her fluids under the skin (my husband did this for us).  $30 a mth wasn't too bad. We had put a wall hook above her "bench" seat and we would hook up the bag, call her over, give fluids which took a few minutes each week.  This isn't for everyone (or cat)  though.  She just let us do it with no fight! Another thing that amazed our doctor was we changed her diet from grocery store brands to Wellness wet food and her "numbers" actually improved.  He told us not to get any false hope, it just gave more time. We enjoyed Nermal for 2 more years (she died at 18). In the "end" she stopped eating and became weak.  She would not go at home on her own as we hoped.  We scheduled a day for her and on that day she was so weak her legs gave out.  She let us carry her to the vet in our arms (no carrier needed).  It is sad but keep in mind our pets will never live long enough no matter what and the important thing is their quality of life while they are living. You make every last moment with Taz special and keep her comfy best you can.  That is all you can do.  You may not want to wait as long as we did as I wish we put her down a "bit" sooner.  Missing Nermal.  Best Wishes with Taz.   Pebbles mom.

I hope it is just a bad infection.  If they think so, would they not go ahead with an antibiotic run?

Poor kitty.

zodiacq, if your mom's cat has badly sunburnt ears and it is just advanced sunburn and not skin cancer, there is every chance that a stay at the vet could solve things.  (And of course, your mom should not be letting the cat go outside, especially in the summer.)  I just took my white cat in yesterday for a week's stay at the vet to heal his ears.  They are going to biopsy the ears to check for cancer, and she told me that just his boarding there for a week might make a big difference in allowing his ears to heal.  (Living with us, he gets out and it is virtually impossible to prevent.)  Also, they can freeze the cancers off nowadays if that is what is happening.

I would be doing the exact same thing as you. Yes miracles do happen and Vet's make mistakes.....and TAZ is very lucky to have a mom like you not so ready to give up on him. As long as he does not seem to be suffering, is eating, drinking, and is going to the litter box, this is good.

I believe , like you, there are signs from above that sometimes guide us in our actions....so keep the faith.

Prayers for you and TAZ,
CML

It is me not ready to give up I was looking on a website under liver failure found natural remedies, they had so many testimonies from people that said it saved their cat so I called them they also have one for cancer so I ordered both, it cost 70.00 for both and for 3 month supply, I think I found this with a little help from up above, so it is on its way, I will try anything to save my cat, sometimes the vet don't know everything and miracles happen all the time. I will let all of you know if there is any signs of him getting better, they do not know for sure if it is cancer it might be some bad infection, by the way my cats name is Taz and he is all white with blue eyes. Thank you for you kind words.

That is so sad.  I'd consider asking them to run the test once more, or taking him to another vet, just to be certain, if he does not look sick.  It's a slim chance, but lab errors are known to happen.

My heart breaks for you! Getting this kind of news is something we always fear!  The wonderful thing about cats is they only live in the MOMENT. So your baby will leave this world wrapped in love....and that is a beautiful way to end our days.

You have given him a wonderful life, one he is still in the process of enjoying. So enjoy every precious moment until the time comes.

With deep sadness,
CML

Well I brought him to the vet had the test done to see if he had feline lekmema neg I was happy so then they did blood work to make sure everything was good to have the surgery the test came back very bad his liver is very bad my whole world just fell they said they would not do the surgery, so I asked what could be done and they said nothing so I brought him home and just loving him as long as I can, they have no idea how long he has, so as long as he seems happy and eating I will be happy.  Thank you to all of you for caring but there is nothing nobody can do now.  So sad.
