The Vet Said.....
The warm water thing was correct and everything else we're doing is perfect. The kittens are in perfect condition and very very healthy and big for 2 wks. They have given us eye drops for the kitten.. and said it should clear up in the next 3 to 4 days.
It wasnt an Infection or anythin, just a cold...
and it is now being sorted..
Thanks

They've already been sold! Just waiting for them to get bigger. Waiting for them to reach 8 to 12 weeks, then they're going. So we dont have to worry about that, Because they've already been paid for and have homes to go too.
And they are going to the vets tomorrow anyways to get their antibiotics. And the only reason we hadnt got her spayed one because we didnt realise she was old enough to have kittens herself because shes not even a year old, and 2 we have just come out of a refuge and trying to get ourselves sorted and she got pregnant whilst she was being looked after at our old house!
all our cats have been de wormed had their injections and things, my boyfriend is helping us out when we can. We just didnt have the money there and then, but its all being sorted and we are able to take them to the vets tomorrow.
so everything is now sorted and is being dealt with. YAY!
I hate being the messenger of bad news here, but I wouldn't count on being able to sell the kittens. One of the shelters I work at currently has almost 200 kittens under the age of 3 months and that number is growing every day. Many of these are kittens that were surrendered by the owners of their mother's, others are brought in as strays by owners who have simply put them out because they were not able to keep, sell, or give them away. And there are still many others who become feral cats and continue to breed. The only reason animal shelters exist is because there are too many unwanted animals. If you cannot afford to spay/neuter your pets, get them vaccinated, and provide them with medical care when needed, please at least consider only having pets adopted from a shelter that have already been spayed/neuters, and have had at least their initial vaccinations, deworming, and have been tested for life threatening conditions such as heartworms and FIV.
This is one of the reasons I volunteer at animal shelters. It allows me to interact with many wonderful cats and dogs without having to bear the cost of owning more than I can afford. You are clearly concerned about your kittens' welfare, but if you can't afford to care for them, volunteering some time at a shelter is a way to help them without being responsible for the cost. Having pets is a lifelong responsibility, just like having children, and the cost of ownership will run into hundreds and even thousands of dollars over the life of just one pet.
Hmm...I'm reading what I wrote earlier and I wonder where in the world I got the idea the mother was rejecting the kitten. Must of pulled that idea out of thin air.
Let us know how it all goes. Like Jade said, just remember to keep one thread as it is easier for us to track the kitties' progress :-)
Good Luck!!!
right, my mum said if its still bad Thursday we'll take them back, only because what happened to an older kitten in the same situation, Warm salty water cleaned it right up. And we are selling them, they just need to get older. Thats the only reason, we normally wouldnt have this many, and being in a bad situation at the moment we didnt think our Female cat was actually old enough to have kittens yet as she is only a kitten herself. They are separate from the other kittens but they had this problem weeks before these were born! And we are only looking after these other kittens for my boyfriend who pays for the older kittens so we are alright there.
She hasnt rejected them yet, even though we have interfeered because of the ill kitten and everything. She's a pretty good mum.
We're taking them Thursday. :)
Thanks everyone

It is probably too late to separate them anyway. URI is very contageous among cats and in all likelihood the entire litter and their mama is already infected. However, you mentioned something about older kittens? I would definitely keep this litter separated from them. Have your older kittens and the mama of this litter been vaccinated?
I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you can't afford to care for the kittens, their best chance may be with surrendering them to your local shelter or a rescue group.
Keep trying with the warm water. That sounds like all you can do at this point.
Good luck honey...keep trying. So the mother is rejecting this kitten? Sometimes a mama cat will reject a kitten if she knows it's ill and can't be saved. It's just mother natures way :(
And, Cassie, just a suggestion, but it would be so helpful to all of us if you would stick to one thread and that way the history of what you've done for the kittens is easier to follow and remember. I just happened to remember you mentioned on the thread before this that all the kittens had colds and you Had taken them to the vet.
Keep us updated, hon :)
No they didnt give them anything we have NO money to take them to the vets.... This happend to one of the older kittens (ones we brought) and the warm water helped it.
we cants separate it because its just over a week old and the mother wont feed it otherwise!
We washed it a dried it, 5 mins later they were stuck again!! We cant take them to the Vets!
:(

Yes, warm water would help to soften them up. Cassie, while you're waiting to hear from the vet or even take this kitten back in, get a small washcloth or even a sturdy paper towel would do it Moisten it with warm water and apply to the outside of the kittens eyes to loosen up that gunk. Once it's loosened up, very gently try to wipe it away. This is conjunctivitis which can come with a cold.
Did the vet put the kittens on antibiotics?
You mentioned the fact that she had a cold? The eye thing is totally related to that, so I would definitely take her back in and get her checked. I'm sure this will go away with antibiotics. Are you keeping her isolated from the other animals? If not.........you should!
Well, it sounds like an eye infection which won't go away without antibiotics. How old is she now? Can you take her to the vet?
