Hi and thank you so much for this info! Even though the treats are only given after say, a medication event or even the Frontline being put on, that is the ONLY time we give treats, but my husband tends to go overboard so I wanted the treat to be as natural as possible and I thought those Greenies were or at least better than Temptations.
I will most definitely check out the Beef Eaters! I'll get the chicken since Jade always turns her nose up to anything salmon.
Yeah, from what I understand the Feline Greenies aren't really good for cats. I forget where I learned about this, but I don't give them to Akira any more since learning about this. Plus, I think there are grains in the Greenies. They're probably fine for dogs, since dogs are omnivores, but not so much for cats. Like with us, it's better to find foods as reasonably close to the cat's natural diet as is reasonably possible for us to do, remembering that they're obligate carnivores. If your cat isn't allergic to fish, you can try Wild Side Salmon or something similar made by Beef Eaters (sold at Pet Smart). Both of these brands are nothing but freeze dried salmon. So, essentially, they are just salmon, a single ingredient. Beef Eaters has a freeze dried chicken treat that is usually sold next to the freeze dried salmon and for about the same price. So, if the cat is allergic to salmon, you can try this kind of chicken for a treat. I've never seen any of these treats on any of the recall lists ever that I can remember. And, I definitely pay attention to recalls, since I want to keep my Akira for as long as I can without anything worse going on than the allergies she has that are nearly identical to my own.
Thanks for the warning, Opus! I just bought Jade some new healthier treats (want to get away from the *Temptations* which is crap food and ONLY given as a reward) so hurried to make sure it wasn't this treat in question. What I bought is Feline Greenies and she loves it which probably means it's not so good for her, either.
more info by dr. Osborne, she claims so far NO cats have been KNOWN to be affected...
these jerky treats are made by Delmonte
