hi, I tried the fountain and my cats wouldn't use, but the girl I sold it to her cats love it and another friends too....so depends on the cat. does yours like to drink out of a running faucet, if so she would love a fountain, its certainly worth a try.
can't comment on the chicken broth ice cube, if you do try that be sure its NOT a broth with lots of sodium...like best to make your own by baking a chicken and saving the broth.
good luck, let us know if what you try works ok...♥
I would think that eventually the fat in the chicken broth would clog the fountain, particularly if served cold where the fat could be solid ones the ice cube melts.
sorry I didn't think she was meaning to put the chicken broth cubes INTO the fountain...If thats what you intended Chickadee than no that won't work, these fountains have filters in them and theres no way anything other than plain water will filter through.....I do think Nancy she was meaning separate dishes of water and adding a cube of chicken broth to flavor and thus entice them to lap it up....
Chickadee you'll have to clear this up for us... :)
I was thinking the fountain combined with the chicken broth....but I found on a dog site that someone did it and it worked...I'm guessing as long as you clean it it could possibly work...
and the broth would be from boiled chicken...all the bouillon, etc. would have too much salt & other items not good for the kitty
no not good for kitty, its a must to keep all ingredients to as natural as possible...sodium in any form isn't good.
as for cleaning the filter...if something other than plain water is added it would need to be cleaned daily...or bacteria would harbor in the filter....
add your homemade cubes(plain chicken broth) to just a dish of water for flavoring if that will entice him to drink more..let us know how you make out..its not easy to get kitties to drink.
You can also add additional water to his canned food, thats what I have to do with one of mine that doesn't drink as much as he should. remember canned foods have a minimum of 78% water, while dry food only has 10-12%..so very important to feed cans.
good luck♥
NO BROTH! Commercial human food has additives and includes many flavoring, spices etc. that cats can not metabolize. ONIONS WILL kill a cat. The Allium family of plants onions and garlic cause a type of anemia in cats called Heinz-Body that can not be reversed. If it doesn't flat out kill them first.
